Not quite what I hoped for, but not bad!

Pokemon has been a long running franchise, ever since its release of Red and Blue on the gameboy. Ever since then, I've had my hands on every pokemon game that GameFreak happens to come out with. With the release of Pokemon Silver/Gold, and the massive length of the game, I thought that pokemon would only just keep getting better and well this latest release isnt a total loss, it certainly didnt live up to what I was hoping for. To start things off, its a basic pokemon game. You get to choose between a boy, or a girl and it really doesnt affect the game either way. The story starts you off moving to a new city called Littleroot where you just miss your Dad on TV fighting someone to claim a gym battle. I thought it was interesting that they finally included some family members participating in pokemon battles, let alone that your characters dad is actually a gym leader. Soon after, you find the Professor of the town being attacked by a lvl 2 pokemon and you have to choose one of three pokemon to battle it, sound familiar yet? After that, its your job to become the ultimate pokemon champion. Sounds great and all, but if you were looking forward to see some of your old favorite pokemon, your just out of luck. There are over a 100 new speices and although they are just as well thought of as the rest of the pokemon world, its just not as engaging without the other ones. Other than that, my only complaint is the length of the game. It doesnt come close to the length of Silver/God/Crystal, but it stays about the same as Red/Blue. The reason being is that you are confined to the Hoen region. The one feature of Pokemon Silver/Gold/Crystal, was the fact that after you got all 8 badges from Johto, Kanto was available for you to get all 8 badges there. Changes were made to all the people and cities and everything seemed to fall in place perfectly. Well, this time around its a brand new place, brand new pokemon and thats all youll get, thats not to say that this is a bad thing, its just doesnt seem to live up to its full potential. With that said, lets get on with the review. The game now features weather patterns, they are not spontanious but they work and really define the places you are going to. Such as rain, wind, and clouds spanning across the land scapes. There is also a reflection system that makes the world around you feel very real and exploritive. Another thing I thought that was above par, was the storyline, although not as long as you would hope, its really engaging and puts the pokemon right into center play. I wont say anything due to the fact that I hate spoling, so Ill just say this, its great. Overall, if you are a fan of the pokemon games and if you are looking for a great new adventure, give this one a try because it shines in its own way, just not in the way the previous pokemon games were able to.
