Great for Pokémaniacs and puzzle gamers

User Rating: 8.5 | Pokemon Puzzle League N64
There are already a number of puzzle games to choose from on the Virtual Console, but most of them are a bit bland now (Columns) or too basic (Mario & Yoshi). Thankfully Pokémon Puzzle League is both addictive and well-presented, making it a great little title for both Pokémaniacs and puzzle gamers alike.

If you've played Puzzle League DS then you should know what to expect here. Blocks fall from the screen and you have to arrange them so that lines of three or more of the same colour are formed. When this happens, the line disappears, and so on.

Although the game itself is basic (though there's also a nice 3D mode), it's the presence of characters from the old Pokémon animated series(That's still going if you wish to see it, I'm sure there's some on Youtube.) that gives the game some much-needed personality, with best-of-five battles involving players picking a trainer and trying to defeat their opponent's three Pokémon by winning matches.

We'd still say Dr Mario on WiiWare is more worthy of your 1,000 Points because of its online multiplayer, but Pokémon fans will love this
