After about 5 years of not playing pokemon I've come back with the release of HG/SS. After playing to the 4th gym I realize that I completely suck at it...
If anyone could help me even out my team so I don't get completely rolled by upcoming gyms (4th gym included...stupid Geyngar) it would be appreciated XD. I currently got:
Gyarados - lv 20
Dratini - lv 22
Quilava - lv 22
Flaaffy - lv 22
Togepi - lv 18
Weepinbell - lv 21
I just want to make sure I got a good team going throughout the game so once I hit the elite 4 I don't lose cause of an imbalanced team .... >.>

Looks okay, just get them all around 23 before you fight Gengar and evolve Togepi.

I don't think you need Togepi and Weepinbell for the E4.. Replace them with a Psychic type and someone that knows Ice Beam. Unless you're gonna give someone in your team Ice Beam. Or Gyarados leanrs Ice Fang at 32, but I don't think that's enough.

You're fine. And type balance doesn't matter that much, anyway. I beat the Elite Four with two normal types, an electric type, two fighting types, a steel type and a water type. Type coverage, however, is fairly crucial.

Seems all right to me given where you are in the storyline. Make sure you had your Gyarados learn Bite when it evolved, that should make Ecruteak pretty simple. Just make sure that your pokemon cover as many types as possible, don't teach a pokemon more than 2 moves of the same type.
Though, I do have to ask, where did you get a Dratini that early in the storyline?

Yea I was kinda addicted to that coin game, after a bit I had about 8000 coins to spend so I splurged on a dratini lol. I may go ahead and just look for a replacement for the weepenbell...don't really like it anyway. Thanks
