Well, i consider the WiiU as Nintendo's entry into THIS gen. They FINALLY caught up with PS3 and Xbox 360 but its kinda sad that when PS4 and Xbox 760(or whatever they call it) comes out Nintendo will AGAIN be behind he times. Also i dont see the same buzz with the WiiU like with the Wii. Im still getting a WiiU but not until better, non mario games are out. Also people buying it maybe already had PS3/360 so who's gonna rebuy AC3, ME3, NG3, B:AC all over again for another $60. Theyre getting big name games that are leftovers from the other systems with some extras content. Not worth the rebuy. I just dont see WiiU matching the sales of the Wii, gamers have learned their leasons...lol.

But no new console technologies have come out.

    Keyword being new.

Are you insinuating that the Wii wasn't a current (as of Sunday. "last" generation console just because the graphics weren't on the same level as the PS3? The innovative hardware made it a next-gen console then just like the WiiU's new hardware is setting it apart from the Xbox/PS3/Wii's generation.

WiiU is definitely the start of the next home console generation.

Generations are defined by time, not power.

The Wii was part of the same generation as the PS3/360. The Wii U is next-gen.

Wii was just a repackaged gamecube with a gimmick controller and an online connection. That POS can't play games released this year (BL2 and Tekken Tag 2) that a 360 released in '05 or a PS3 in '06 can.

Wii U is just history repeating itself with under-powered console with a gimmick controller that isn't futureproof and no it isn't next gen.

It is technically next-gen, though that doesn't make it actually superior to the previous gen. It's like the first 64-bit processors that sucked badly compared to their previous high end 32-bit counterparts back in the day. Or the GeForce cards that came right after the 9800 GT.

it seems people here still think ps3 is still new tech... they dont know that the generation left them behind so many years ago (heck, before i built my first pc i though the ps3 could never to topped... after building the pc i found out just how much i can save as well as how much better games look/perform)

    current gen > current gen

I wouldn't call that the best comparison since it's not like Rocksteady are going to redesign the entire game just for a wiiU port.

I am, however, impressed that right out of the gate it's running ports that are easily on par with a game you would never have seen at the beginning of the 360/PS3 gen.

Really intrigued to see what Zelda and Metroid they pull of on it.

Well, let me know when a good comparison comes up. I think I'll be waiting at least a year or two. Hopefully gameplay mechanics make up for the lack of impressive presentation.

Or use your own brain to see a game which is actually taking advantage of it's hardware

I think Zombi-U looks pretty sweet, and Mario, aside from Galaxy and Galaxy 2, have never been about pushing the visual envelope. And as much as I wish it were untrue, the next MS and Sony consoles aren't going to stomp anything. The improvments will be minimal aside from less muddier texture work and possibly resolution. I mean, even when newer PC games are released, I can still run them on a dual core 2.4ghz processor and my GTX 560.

Games aren't doing the visual leap of yesteryear

And Scott, I also disagree with your assertions of what next-gen means.

Next-gen is a term that carries with it the idea of a leap forth. After all, by your logic, Ninty could have released a calculator that could only run PONG but because it's their next system after the Wii, it would somehow be next-gen.

Nothing feels next-gen about this system. It's more like catch up to the PS3, but with a crap, Tomy Toys R Us kiddy tablet added on.

I wouldn't be saying I'm not impressed with it's graphical capabilities at this point if I didn't.

and by the way, I'm getting two of them tomorrow. I just don't expect to be wowed by anything visually anytime soon.
