Jogurt attacks! Inflicts 1 point of damage on the Goblin. Goblin is defeated! Jogurt gains experience.

Rap.
Music.
Mutually exclusive.
On an aesthetic spectrum, rap is at the lowest end of qualiy, and the people that listen to it regularly lack the maturity to realize it.
One word for you: Ignorant.
While the people the TC named are garbage (they call themselves rappers but it's closer to Hip-hop) there is good rap music.
You need to expand your horizons then you wouldn't say ignorant things like that. Instead of judging a whole genre based on what you hear on the radio why don't you do some research.
ITT: people who don't know what hip hop is.
I know what Hip-Hop and what Rap is. I never said they did hip-hop. The TC pointed out some of the worst offenders of garbage rap. To say they are rappers would really insult real rappers.

First off.. No. I can't think of any RPG where rap could fit in. But I can see many hip hop beats/breakbeats fitting in many RPGs. To get an idea of what I'm talking about listen to someone like Nujabes.
Also, I bet all these ignorant people in this topic are the same people who listen to stuff like anime music, Linkin Park, Evanescence and 009 Sound System.

I don't hate rap, but I don't like it either. They just don't belong in certain games. - Jan 26, 2013 4:46 pm GMT*sees topic title and expects debates about what defines "music"*
Yeah, just as I thought.

Yo don't generalize like that. I'm very eclectic when it comes to music. I love Nujabes Horn in the Middle, Lady Brown, Blessing It but I listen to game music, Amine music, Baroque, Classical, Country, everything.
By the way Nujabes would fit so well in like anything (especially the instrumentals).

People who can believe things like this are among the lowest of the low in music criticism. You can't just throw out the term aesthetic spectrum and expect it to somehow mean something concrete for the ability to objectively grade music. You go even lower when you do such a thing for an entire genre of music.

Throw in some Wayne, Drake, Souja Boi, or more of the best in the game and it would make those RPG battles feel a lot more epic.
Just imagine the boss battles in Ni No Kuni as "Fear" by Drake plays.
Generally a fan of all music, (only dislike most country and most r and b)
HUGE fan of rap as I grew up with it and various other types of music.
I was almost with you when I read the topic, then came in and read what 'rappers' you posted. Those guys are pretty much pop stars posing as rappers.
Good at making ganstapop if you like that stuff but pretty terrible lyrically, at least imo. - Jan 26, 2013 5:05 pm GMTMlREFOX posted...

It is an entire industry dominated with mysoginistic, racist, foul-mouthed messages, all put to rhythms and "music" created electronically. There is a dearth of true musicianship, and while I don't need all my music to be Kumbaya, rap is 99% negative. It is for emotionally stunted people. I am not denying that there is an absolute lack of talent, but the genre as a whole is an immature joke when you are actually talking about "music."
But that's not true. Literally nothing you said was true. Foul-mouthed maybe, but there is no governing body of right words and rap reflects the culture it comes for. If you want it neutered, you would be another person who doesn't understand rap, and music at that. When you make statements like, rap is for emotionally stunted people, you're betraying 1. That you don't listen to much rap music
2. That you're willing to make a huge statement about the millions, possibly billions, of people who listen to a type of music as emotionally stunted. What do you think music is? Does it have to have guitars and sheet music? When ancient people sang and made beats with rocks and sticks or whatever was that music? I know this at least, you don't get to decide for me, and for the rest of the world. You don't get to decide what music is, and you don't get to decide what mature or immature music is.

My Vita Wallpaper Collection: http://damack.imgur.com/ - Jan 26, 2013 5:11 pm GMTSoulja Boi???? The guy who has a song whose chorus is "Girl you stink take a bath"??
Or little Wayne whose ALL songs include
-Something about money
- The word "widowpayne"
- Him laughing
- The word "ho" or other derogatory names for women
- Something about weed
Or Drake who uses bland, crappy beats for every song and whose songs all sound the same????
I use to love rap, it's been awful for the past 5+ years. It use to tell a story and stood for something, now every song is the same old crap, filled with lines after lines with no substance. - Jan 26, 2013 5:12 pm GMTLowkey is the only good rapper existed

Americans will get all raged of course - Jan 26, 2013 5:15 pm GMTHow much weed do you smoke on a daily basis? Be honest.
Serious note; No way. Granted a select few could be alright with rap, but none of this American crap. It's all shallow, no meaning, and all about sex, p*ssy and alcohol. I've seen where rap went right and the only time I've seen that is in Persona(although, thats more Jpop). Rap has no place in RPGs. - Jan 26, 2013 5:19 pm GMTMost likely a joke topic but if I recall (barring my subtle forum name) I'm pretty certain that Star Ocean 3 had like one battle theme that was sort of done in a rap-music like fashion. I also recall it being actually funny but quite catchy. I can forgive the game though because it still had some fantastic music for the most part.
Can't say though that I agree with the whole idea but I've heard worst ideas about RPG music.
