Rap.
Music.
Mutually exclusive.
On an aesthetic spectrum, rap is at the lowest end of qualiy, and the people that listen to it regularly lack the maturity to realize it.
One word for you: Ignorant.
While the people the TC named are garbage (they call themselves rappers but it's closer to Hip-hop) there is good rap music.
You need to expand your horizons then you wouldn't say ignorant things like that. Instead of judging a whole genre based on what you hear on the radio why don't you do some research.
ITT: people who don't know what hip hop is.

Grand Theft Auto has rap music. It's headed the same direction as Legend of Zelda, no one wants to call it an RPG anymore like we used to back in the 90's. I am thankful for one thing for rap though, it's destroying the ears of so many people who listen to it, they're all going to be deaf by the time they're 40. Headphones are so loud it's like they are hearing it from an iPhone without them even on.

It is not music and they can keep it out of games if they want me to buy them.

It's not just rap - it's all music. Rock, pop, etc etc. It's a consequence of people having no consideration for their future, though I'm guilty of it too :/

I would like the people that like metal but say rap isn't music explain to me how heavy/death metal is consider music. All it is, is a bunch of dude screaming and yelling nonexistence words.

@rjthbarbarian --> flava born!...lol!!!...]xD...
@Space_Monky --> the pokerap is all anyone is going to get...rhyming skillz are cool...most rap topics aren't...it's not the lowest end, but gets it reputation for things most people do not naturally gravitate to...tupac, krs-one, theivery corporation and queen latifah would be my picks of rap to put in games...i might as well be saying "mc hammer" and getting jumped...the real reason is the stereotypes that are in gaming, and entertainment in general...that and everyone using games as a scapegoat for real life violence...put rap in it now and you will kill the gaming industry by ignorant prejudice alone....

This is a terrible idea, I'm sorry.
But keep that filth out of my RPG's.
I'll stick to my orchestrated battle music, thank you very much.

If you want games with rap in it, you should check out Anarchy Reign's. That game's soundtrack is almost purely rap. And good rap, not the garbage they play on the radio today like Soulja Boi.

The world would be better off without Rap so I've gotta disagree with adding it to RPGs.

It would be dope if rap-and R&B for that matter-was used in video games. Not the artists the TC listed though. Hip hop and club mixes. Been listening to all kinds of genres in games for 31 years now. Show them some love.
For those that don't like rap, that's cool. But know that the best is that which gets little to no radio play.

Maybe video games should cost less than 20 million and take less than 3 years to make. Because $60 a pop is some b*******!

Another thought-provoking topic from MourningReigns, right on schedule.
I can't say I agree with you on this one. I don't think licensed music belongs in video games at all, I prefer it when they hire a composer. Just name dropping here, but Tales of the Abyss and Chrono Trigger illustrates my point. Or if you want to come back to the west, look no further than Starcraft and Diablo 2. The music compliments the other elements that make the game.
That said, this topic has brought out elitists of all kinds I see.

It depends, but it has to be something modern in my opinion.
I can definitely see rap as a battle track for games like in Persona 3 and TWEWY. J-Rap anyway.

Personally, I don't think that would work.
The music should fit the theme of the game, in my opinion, and most RPG's try to create a 'fantasy' setting - not really the place for a rap number.
Perhaps in an RPG with a modern setting; Persona 3's OST had elements of rap in it, and it kind of worked. However, in a game like Final Fantasy? There's little to no chance.
