For only $10 at Steam, this game might be one of the "Biggest Bank for Your Buck" Games of 2009!

User Rating: 9.5 | Plants vs. Zombies PC
At a release price of ten bucks, this might be one of the all-time value purchases. It reminds me of Serious Sam, another game that you could spend hours and hours playing, yet spend very little money to enjoy it right after its release date.

I don't mean to confuse you with the Serious Sam example, because Plants Vs. Zombies is NOT a shooter. Instead, it's a simple, but highly entertaining puzzle game. Most levels involve your plan against a zombie attack on a checkered board. Before each battle, you pick a certain amount of plants to use as your defense. Each level, you earn more plant cards, and other perks. There are several prizes to obtain including money which you can use to shop and upgrade your arsenals. The CPU throws a few curve balls and changes up the format of games, including night, day, and water adventures; and there are several mini-games to enjoy away from the main adventure mode. It's hard to explain the central concept of this game, but trust me, if you enjoy simple but addicitve strategy games, you will get a kick out of this one.

If you enjoy Steam games like Defense Grid the Awakening, Defcon, Insaniquarium or Braid, then Plants vs. Zombies is right up your alley. I'm not sure if a retail version is available but if you haven't joined Steam yet, then what are you waiting for?! It's quickly becoming the most streamlined and growing PC gaming community, and the only thing that will allow us PC gamers to compete with rivals such as Xbox Live and PSN.

Bottomline is I've purchased games for $50 that had far better graphics and probably 100+ more developers, yet I thought they were inferior products and only managed to pull me in about 10% of the hours I've given to Plants Vs. Zombies thus far. The sleeper hit of the year, and a game that any demographic will enjoy.
