Just a warning to those who want to get this game now. Sony Customer Service SUCKS!!!!!!!!
However back in its launch and peak times between the years of 2004 to 2006 when it had 3 servers to choose from despite some wired game play changes and updates which changed the map and added Mechwarrior like Battle Field Robotics, it was the best MMO FPS game out there. Where else can you participate in a battle over 100 KM across with tanks battling on the ground and aircraft shoot death from the skies. A few groups trying to get organised by "parachuting" on the roof of a base under siege.
However if you were to play the game TODAY, you would be sorely disappointed and demand your money back. Rampant hacking allowing a lone wolf to kill 1000 of players and capture a base in mere seconds is all but unfair. Not to add that SOE changed the appeal system to close or often crash your game and direct you to a confusing customer service forum gives the impression that they don't want to hear anything from you. Though the limited service is understandable as it is a dated game and 3 servers had to be merged into 1 server now known as Gemini because too few players were online at a time.
Yet the worst rip off to customer service has finally come. As on a weekend which is the peak time for MMO games the only server is down and is suffering continuous connection problems. Although if you were to go renew your subscription fee they will take your money without any hope of a refund. What is worse instead of an announcement on the launchpad (flash device that ensures your game is updated and provides information news and updates before the games is started) the only warning was on the game development discussion board.
All is not without hope, rumors provoked by an SOE survey for information on "the next planetside game" implies that they are working on "something" which could explain that resources are being sent somewhere other than Everquest. However given SOE current track record with this game. Fans and customers will be leery of what SOE puts out.
Sum it all up If you were to pay to play this game, you should have done it years ago. NOW DO NO RENEW OR START UP A SUBSCRIPTION.
