Classic game that doesn't try too hard (or cost too much)

Ok...let me preface this by saying, "I wrote this game!" I am Chapel (the author of this title). By rating it an 8.0, I'm really rating my own effort on the title. I put in enough time on it to make it better than average, but not enough time so that I no longer recognized sunlight and family members. =)

This game's got all the classic goodies. Space, planets, black holes, rockets, explosions, power-ups, and aliens (complete with maniacal alien laughter).

Your planet is on a decaying orbit and it is about to meet it's doom at the center of the solar system. You build rockets and aim them at nearby orbiting planets to shuttle your people off to safety. The later levels of the game include obstacles (like asteroids) and aliens that try to thwart your rescue efforts. The power-ups do many things including point bonuses, slowing down time, increasing the size of target planets, and stopping time to help you ship off as many citizens to safety as you can. You build nukes to shoot power-ups, asteroids, and aliens, but you have to balance the amount of time you spend trying to kill bad guys. You have a planet full of people to save and little time to save them.

When I set out to make this game, I just wanted to get over the hump of building my first full game (from title screen to credits). I didn't try to make the next Gears of War or even the next Dig Dug, for that matter.

However, while building this title, I actually found it to be pretty fun to play. Very addictive...and while playtesting/tweaking I found myself drawn to the challenge of making each level's goals achievable, but in a challenging way. I'd like to do a subsequent title for XNA Community Games, but I rather enjoyed making this one.

It's got pretty simple gameplay elements and the graphics are totally campy...but it's called Planet Crashmania 9,000,000 (you gotta love that title). It's classically addictive to play...the maps get progressively harder as you go...and when you complete the game, there's an Easter Egg that shows you how to make the game a bit more challenging.

Check it out...it's $2.50...totally worth the look.

Thanks...
