Pit Fighter back in the arcades didn't look all that bad with its digitized actors and 3-player support but however most of its console ports where bad but the SNES version is no doubt the worst port of this painful fighting experience. THQ sure knew how to muck up a mediocre fighting game alright.

You play as either Buzz an Ex- Wrestler, Ty a Kickboxing Champion or the Black Belt Fighter Kato as your goal is to fight off against 12 fighters in a tournament to determine the champion.

Pit Fighter can be played as either a 1-on-1 against the CPU or you can invite a friend over to join in and help extending the count to 2-on-2 matches.

In between winning 2 fights you'll be given a grudge match where you fight against a clone of you where you got to make your opponent fall over 3 times in order to win. You don't have to win these matches as losing these do not result in failing the game. While in the 2-player mode the grudge match puts both players against each other.

Pit Fighters battles handle a lot like Taitos Violence Fight where the battles take place inside a multi-plane battle arena. The controls are A Button punches, B kicks and X jumps. You can also try to perform special moves by using either the L or R Buttons with A,B,X,Y but however some of these moves are worthless and difficult to pull off that it leaves you open to enemy attacks.

The most effective attacks are either punching recklessly while the R button is held down or by throwing them which does plenty of damage to them. Even some of these attacks can be countered since their AI is super aggressive and they don't stop hitting you till they're ready to Teabag you when you're down.

The biggest problem is that there's no continues, whenever you die it's Game Over and you'll have to restart at the very first fight again so if you got very far it's frustrating that you got to restart all over again. Also you don't get your Health restored until you win the third fight (the Grudge Match doesn't count.) It's so ridiculous because one fight is enough for nearly your entire Health to deplete. Once you do win each 3 fights you only get 160 points while you start the game with that amount.

The graphics are flat and dull for the most part and the sprites are much smaller in comparison to its arcade counterpart. The arenas look generic with pixelated palates which look badly detailed and also the main flaw the production is the sprite animations which are hilariously bad. While the movement animations look decent but the crowd's animations are stiff and the characters twitch whenever they are on the ground which is embarrassing to see, it's hilarious to see an enemy that you lost suddenly decide to teabag your dead characters body on the other hand just for amusement.

The audio doesn't fair any better, the sound effects are weak alongside the voice-clips and the music is just one track that loops all over which easily gets repetitive when the scenery changes.

Playing Pit Fighter on SNES is like watching 2 people just wrestling it out on a trampoline. For full price or second hand price deals it's not even worth playing Pit Fighter on consoles for it's Broken Gameplay, Bad Health system and the awful production effort. THQ shamelessly did a bad job of porting this and that's a shame.
