POC is similar to a 17th century grand theft auto, it is a must try for any gamer intrigued by the Content.
If you've ever wondered what it would be like to be around during the times of pirates, swashbucklers, myths of the sea and buried treasures then you are in for a treat. Pirates of the caribbean is probably the closest thing you'll have to a 17th century pirate experience. From the open ended gameplay to the stunning graphics pirates of the caribbean has it all, though like most games it does indeed have a few flaws.

The game starts you out as Captain Nathaniel Hawk. You will be given a shor trainning lesson if you chose so and then you will be able to venture throughout. You are currently docked at one of the british islands. As soon as you return to your ship a clip will play and you will see the island that you were docked at get invaded by the french. Your ship was the only one to escape and you must inform the governor on another british island of the french inavsion, thus the adventure begins... Right away you are able to do as you please, I ventured throughout the islands before actually informing the governor. You will notice that there are 4 Nations present in this set of islands in the archipelago, The English, the French, the Spanish, the dutch and though they are not a nation pirates are also present and are quite organised. Throughout the game you basically go around taking on missions from bandits to governors an d anything in between. The missions are usually pretty basic ,delivering a package to so and so, follow so and so however once in a while you will get an interesting mission such as invading a port.

The gameplay is one of the strong points of the game. As soon as you begin playing you will notice that this is no regular hack and slash open ended game. though it is similar to grand theft auto, your character is no super human and cannot sustain much damage, thus you will quickly learn not to kill innocent people or guards, your character will not be able to take on more then one guard at once and often you will be overwhelmed with guards. However one of the exciting things in the game is hiring officers and building your own aramada. Yes thats right! you can actually build your own armada of up to and including 4 ships and once you have your own armada the sky's the limit! You can hire new crew members and officers from locacal pubs for a price. You can assign your officiers to one of your ships or you can have them stay at your side at all times. Some of my officers had stayed at my side throughout the game and you actually grow attached to them , so it does get rather sad to lose them as you can never get them back. Building your own armada is quite simple you can either buy ships or win them in battle. The ship battles are incredible. You can sometimes engage in battles with up to 15-20 ships involved. Sometimes you will be forced into a ship war as you navigate your ship throughout the simple mini map however on other ocassions you can join in ship battles between two rival nations and come to the aid of one of the nations. You can board other ships and conquer them. I often did this because not only do you gain a free ship but you get their crew and all of their supplies, however be warned it is not as simple as it seems, boarding a ship requires you to pull up quite close which is extremly dangerous and then you must grapple the ship then advance throughout the ship until you've killed all of the opposing crew members. You will have an extremly difficult time if the ship is higher then your class. Your men will be weaker and outnumbered and will die quickly, often you will have to advance throughout the ship on your own.

The graphics are the backbone of pirates of the caribbean, they are absolutly stunning. Often if you chose to sail in first person mode on a sun set you can litterarly spend 10 minutes just glazing at the amazing scenary. It is absolutly amazing and some of the water graphics look extremly realistic. The character models are also great aswell as the ship and building models.

The sound in pirates of the caribbean is probably one of the only falws, they're is virtually no voice casting and all the characters just make a bunch of annoying sounds and grunts as you talk to them, which do get quite repetative after a while. However the sound sof the sea and ship battles are quite good.

Remember to save often as there is no auto-saving and also they're are some glitches that can ruin your entire game for instances do not save in the temple at the end, I did and could not re-load my game forcing me to re-start and lose hours upon hours of gameplay, also ocassionnaly the game will say file corupt and messages such as that when you try and load your game.

With the exception of a few flaws pirates of the caribbean is an amazing experience that I think anyone with a passion for history and open ended gameplay should try.
