Short but sweet, it is very fun to play but a lack of content brings it down.

User Rating: 7.5 | Pilotwings Resort 3DS
Pilotwings Resort, the first game in the Pilotwings series since 1997's Pilotwings 64. It's a cool game to show off to friends and family to show what the 3DS is capable of. But is it worth your time and hard-earned cash?

First off, I'll tell you about the control. It is excellent. The circle pad works so well it's unbelievable. First-time players will have no trouble getting to grips with this game. The game starts you off with a little tutorial to help you get started and within no time you will be able to fly the game's various vehicles like a pro.

Speaking of vehicles, there are six of them. The plane, the rocket belt (better name than jet pack don't you think) and the hang glider each have a more powerful version to unlock. My personal favourite is the super rocket belt, just because it is so incredibly awesome.

However, although the game does a lot of things right, it does some things wrong too. For starters, there are only two modes of play, Mission Mode and Free Flight Mode. Mission Mode is a fairly lengthy single player offering which tests your skills in a variety of missions. The variety of missions don't go very far though. Occasionally, you'll do something different like careen down to Earth in a flying squirrel suit or put out campfires on the beach in a plane, but most of the time you just fly through rings, land on/shoot targets and then land your vehicle. Free Flight Mode lets you fly around Wuhu Island at "your own pace". And by "your own pace" I actually mean "on a timer". It starts out at two minutes but by popping balloons you can increase it to five minutes, but even that feels too limiting. This lack of content brings down an otherwise solid game.

Now onto the graphics. They are brilliant for a 3DS launch game. The vehicles and the island have lots of detail, you get lens flare when facing towards the sun and everything has a realistic reflection to it. The 3D effect is great and adds a nice sense of depth to everything.

When deciding whether to purchase this game, it all comes down to what type of gamer you are. If you want to 3 star every mission, pop every balloon and find every i point, it's a great purchase. But if you just want to play every mission and be done with it, it's best as weekend rental.
