Penumbra: Overture User Review
Honestly a good adventure game - Not much substance but you can enjoy the journey it takes you on.

This game was a good adventure game but far from the best. It had good points and some disappointing points but give it a try and see if you like it or not.
The journey it takes you under ground beneath the snowy lands of Green Land to search for clues about your father who being dead, one day sends you a note, which leads you to North Greenland.
Obviously being a slightly older game the graphics and visuals are not that great but you can get by. There are not many 'monsters' or creatures you encounter in this game which is slightly disappointing but the spooky atmosphere makes up for that. The game in its self is not overly long but not to short either.
You have to use you brain often to solve puzzles - I.E. you need to know to cut certain things with certain tools, the place can be a little mazey as well so you often have to look for maps on the walls to find directions which can be frustrating.
The most frustrating aspect of this game is the combat - here you need to move the mouse in a certain way to hit an object with your weapon - either a pick axe or hammer. Now when in a combat scene you can hit miss quite easily and leaves you open for damage by the attacker - this gets really frustrating at times.
Finally, often throughout the game you find letters/notes by previous people/workers in the mine. This generally holds key information for codes to the next area through a door and chemical combination's - yet the notes contain too much writing which is not important and requires you to read too much and as a result you may lose interest reading it, like me.
The good:
-Freaky atmosphere
-Fun adventure
-Scary chase scenes
-Appropriate game length (Not too long/too short)
The bad:
-Visuals dated
-Very few 'enemies' or 'creatures'
-Bad ending (disappointing)
-Some puzzles may be too difficult at times
-Combat is frustrating
-Too mazey - too much back and forth

An obscure little game that I picked up on a whim. So happy I did.

Despite its short gameplay and very odd combat system, Penumbra: Overture is awesome for thrill seekers.

Even though I didn't find this title that scary it is still a really enjoyable survival horror, FPS, puzzle hybrid.
