Peggle is an amazingly fun and addictive puzzle game, well worth getting!

Peggle Deluxe is another quirky game presented to us by PopCap Games for a value for money $20 or £10 on Steam. On the surface you may consider it a simple puzzle game, but it is more. Not much more, but it is certainly more than a simple puzzle game.

While there may not be a story, there is a good selection of ‘zones’ with their own theme that you play through. Each zone has its own unique character welcome you and tell you about the special feature for their area.

The basic premise of the game is to shoot balls around a brightly coloured area and hit orange bricks or blobs. One all the orange ones are hit and destroyed you win the game. There are also blue blobs and bricks which also earn you points, though not as many as the orange ones, though you can get combos for more points. Remember those special features I mentioned earlier? Well when you hit a green blob or brick the special feature for the zone is enacted. This can be anything from having the ball collector roving at the bottom of the screen become bigger allowing easier collection and redemption of a ‘free-ball’ to having crab claws appear allowing you to have some pinball fun.

A fun feature of the game is when you get down to one last orange piece. When your ball is bouncing and flying close to the last piece, time slows down and the camera zooms in on the ball and orange piece….if you hit a mighty roar is unleashed, a miss is accompanied by a golf like groan of disappointment. Once you clear all the orange pieces a rainbow appears with ‘FEVER SCORE’ written over it whereupon you tensely wait to see which bonus point bag your ball falls into while listening (and dancing) to the funky music that plays. There are several other game modes apart from the main game including a Duel mode. This pits you either against the AI or against someone else on the same computer battling it out to score the most points on after another.

This is a fun game that can remove the stress of a long-day pretty well and provides some good music to sit back and relax or sit up and dance to. Well worth spending the $20/£10 via Steam rather than spending the £15 it costs in UK stores.
