Totally kicks butt. I can't wait to play this. It reminds me of Star Craft 2. Both will definitely be great games.

I wonder if they'll have all the benefits of each army you choose? (I.e. Chaos Iron Warriors have extra Heavy Support).

darkthruth u realise of course that is the heros voice and as for the game narration its a completely different voice, anyway bad voice acting doesnt kill a game for example ashley from resident evil 4 didnt stop it from getting praises across the board. though i do agree games are art. so voice doesnt ruin a game unless there all bad (case in point the fifa games from EA)

The voice over for this totally killed it. Is this horrible voice acting a sign of how seriously this studio is taking this game? Of course the gameplay is the most important (assuming they get that right), but it's annoying when developers ignore other aspects of their games. As it is the storyline is likely to be, well - retarded.

People are fully entitled to their opinions. So I think giving demerits to people who say this or that game is going to suck is unjustified. Ignoring them (and the people who just say "This is gonna be awesome" without saying anything else) altogether is better than sticking thumbs-downs down their throats.

But do give demerits to them if the game turns out to be awesome. Retroactive punishment is not a bad thing.

As for the Techmarine, aura_enchanted, I can hardly make him out.

The narration sounds a bit off. But if it's a post-battle report, the odd melancholy makes sense. This is the sort of campy, sanctimonious statements that a Space Marine Force Commander is expected to make anyway.

And seriously one should be listening to the sounds of battle more. Awesome bangs.

"Warcraft ate Warhammer fantasy battles and shat it back out with brighter colors." - archaon123

Awesome sentence. Unfortunately, Games Workshop can never smack Blizzard's face for picking on its intellectual property, as Blizzard had a way-ahead headstart in the PC game industry, while Games Workshop hung on to its table-top games for too long and only allowed its pathetic Epic 40K line of games get fully computerized. W40K and WFB only get some mocking representation on the PC platform, and these games were not able to fully use the rules and had to make some of their own.

W40K: Chaos Gate (affably mind-boggling health and armor stats aside) and Dark Omen were pretty good though.

And Relic knows it can't crap out the same thing that Starcraft has done; hence the requisition and power economy system of the first DoW. Seriously, can anyone imagine Space Marines digging for ore and other resource sh*t? Of course, they have servitors for that, but they wouldn't let them do that EITHER.

The W40K PC games that Relic is making are turning out differently from Blizzard's own, and for the better too, I say.

With this comment, I really, really hope that there are no more f**king ignorant noobs saying "W40K is a fu**ing clone of Starcraft STFU" or "Warhammer Fantasy is a shameless copy of Warcraft 'nuff said". I will just ignore them from now on. For other well-informed people who still want to argue with these as*holes, just advise them to get and read the codexes and rulebooks.

WW2 is done for games simply for it was the first and last large scale modern war. Company of heroes is set perfectly for if you have an M1A4 go against the aging T-72 its going to have the Call of Duty syndrome and have one tank kill 50 (Exaggerated but one side would be far far more superior if you based it on any other modern war.) Its up to the player to decide if the WW2 setting has been burned out or not. and there are games that call for it like Company of Heroes. And yes warcraft ate Warhammer fantasy battles and shat it back out with brighter colors. If this became Total War scale and looked this good, god help my CPU.

WW2 games suck mate while coh is a good game it is ruined by the crappy setting. I 'm for one glad they chose that gameplay for dow 2 (though changed it a little bit which makes it better because now base building is now almost gone ) it was better than dow 1.Dow 1 wasn't big war scaled either lets face any one with half a brain knew this game was going to be a small battle squad based videogame(when you consider the scope of the first one) anyone who thought otherwise is a moron(yeah thats right I called you a moron tough luck like chump). mjk_1

No 40k is the future version of Warhammer warcraft ripped off warhammeer by the way.In future use Wiki if you have a question.

does anyone know if they are putting in chapter-specific traits that we can choose when playing multiplayer? i.e. blood angels having the red thirst or rage, white scars having speed and infantry advantages, iron hands have better vehicles, etc. or will choosing army paint just be a visual thing? they could extend it to broods, clans, and craftworlds as well. it will probably make balancing a nightmare if you're effectively dealing with 20+ different factions now as well as the heroes. the solution might be to make the traits not game-breaking, but mostly just for flavor purposes.

other than that, this game looks awesome. i love how combat isn't just a straight point-and-click affair and how units fight differently. i think the first DoWs were the most underrated games of their time.

People who say this is like Warcraft/Starcraft are mental, Blizzard wanted the rights to Warhammer/Warhammer 40k and when they couldn't get them they made their own licenses that were almost exact rip offs of the Warhammer licenses.

Warhammer Table-Top gaming has been around 20 years +

Um, actually... if anything you should be saying that warcraft is a medieval version of WH 40k. Blizzard tried to get the liscense to make a WH and WH40k game but instead made StarCraft and WarCraft, nothing wrong with that, loved 'em both. But WarHammer has been around for a LONG time man.
Anyways, the game looks awesome, DoW and Company of Heroes were just incredible RTS games that brought to the table exactly what I was looking for at the time.

darklight86: "That looked...rubbish. Wheres the massive scale battles that were in Dow1? Looks like CoH without the WW2 awesomeness."

If you'd read anything at all about what is surely to be THE most epic RTS of 2009, you'd know that DoW2 is on a smaller scale than the first DoW was, but not by much. The Space Marines are supposed to be given a much more 'against the odds' vibe, their numbers are decreased significantly since the last game, but they're as powerful as they're supposed to be, meaning a single squad of tactical marines, in good cover and well led, could chew their way through mob after mob of Orks, Eldar (depends highly on what aspect warrior type they are though) and Tyranid. Orks will still be able to field large amounts of soldiers, in the game though the Ork players were probably in too much of a rush to cap the points to remember to pump out new units.

ferid84: same infantry units, same vehicles, same voices but maybe some graphical tweaks and abilities..
looks all the same to me too bad...

You're almost as bad as darklight. How can you say after seeing this feature that this is just a bunch of 'graphical tweaks and abilities'. This is going to be nothing like the first game except in the aspect that it focuses on over-the-top futuristic action the way the first DoW was meant to do but failed to deliver upon completely.

It's Dawn of War!!! How much change do you want in a story that been going on for years? If they try to add too much new or additional stuff the game will suffer for it. I think that this change in the game play will be a pleasant diversion from the regular strategy mode. This looks really great. Just give it a chance.

  • brustera

    Posted Jan 15, 2009 7:52 am PT

DoW2 will obviously be huge so adding the other races would be a mistake. They would have to make everything smaller and with less detail to fit all the races into one game. I believe they will release expansions later with other races and new campaigns like they did with DoW1. That way, we will always expect more, get new campaigns (I love singleplayer campaigns more than multiplayer) and they surely will get more money with that. For now, I'll just wait until this gets out and when it does, I'll buy it and play my brains out. "For the Emperor!"
