For the past three years, Blizzard Entertainment's legions of fans have gathered for the annual BlizzCon convention in Southern California. Today, the developer-publisher announced that tickets for its 2009 event, to be held August 21-22 at the Anaheim Convention Center, will go on sale on Saturday, May 16. Each ticket will cost $125--a $25 markup on the admission price of last year's event, held last October.

Despite the hefty entrance fee, there's little question as to whether anyone will show up for BlizzCon 2009. The 2008 event sold out in a matter of hours, with crushing demand bringing the Blizzard Store down for the better part of a day. The problems resulted in more tickets eventually being raffled off.

This year, BlizzCon organizers are hoping to stave off any problems by offering a second block of tickets on May 30. The Blizzard Store has also been upgraded with "a first-come, first-served queue system and a fixed time limit for completing purchases" to make purchasing more efficient. Those eager to attend the event can also preregister their personal information at Battle.net to expedite purchases later. The event will also be viewable on DirectTV and Internet pay-per-view for $39.95.

Meh, I quit WoW last month. SC2 looks decent, but I already have my RTS with Command and Conquer 3.

The only Blizzard game I'm looking at is Diablo 3, and even then I'm not sold on it yet.

I think that's a little harsh to call Gamespot hypocritical. Especially being that 25% is quite a huge price increase. Worst yet, the majority of the people showing up will be fans who are already paying Blizzard one or more ridiculously priced monthly fees for an old software product that's nearly 5-years old and unfortunately still look dated back then. On the other hand, the media always gets in for free and won't have to pay a single cent for this Blizzard business venture or any paid gaming accounts under Blizzard. How bout throwing your fans a bone and let subscribers get in for free or at a serious discount?

You guys are hypocrits. If you gave a party that was sold out in 10 minutes you wouldn't think a second to double the price. I think the price is still rather low if you look at the amount and demand. They could eaily sell those tickets for 250$ and probebaly still sell out in a couple of hours.

I just let me get informed by gamespot becaus i am a cheap ass sucker .

$ 125.00 per ticket Ok, if they make Warcraft and Tides usable in XP or Vista.
Other wise why ask for $ 125.00 to hear the same old Poop.

Why is everyone getting so pissed about the ticket price? I have never heard, met, or read about ANY person who has gone to Blizzcon and said "That sucked, I want my money back". $125? Worth every penny.

lol at the people complaining bout the price. You pretty much always get an item from Blizzard when you go to Blizzcon that you can sell on ebay for WAY more than 125 dollars. And can you imagine how much a Diablo 3 beta key would go for?

$125 a ticket?!...well I guess they need to make up for the fact B.Net is free by doing somthing but...

$125 seems a bit ridiculous for a ticket to a convention. I better get a beta copy of Diablo III to take home.

Australia= The forgotten country. I don't plan on going there, but anyway it would cost even more converting Australian dollars to American dollars. Maybe a bit too costly

This is grossly overpriced. Most HUGE comic book conventions don't cost this much. Why do I get the feeling that the price hike has to do with Activision's greed?

It would be great if they gave a ship date for StarCraft 2 this year. They have us drooling over it with all the new game footage that it would almost be cruel not to give a ship date!
