UFO: Extraterrestrials spotted

Chaos Concepts preps 3D tactical/strategy game

Recently, GameSpot showed you some screens of UFO: Extraterrestrials. Today, Czech-based developer Chaos Concept announced some details about the strategy game to go with the previously released visuals.

Extraterrestrials takes place in the year 2025 on the recently colonized planet of Esperanza. The colony has come under attack from alien forces, and it's up to players to control a squad of soldiers, robots, and support vehicles and fight back the invading menace.

With gameplay and visuals destined to draw constant comparisons to the classic PC strategy game X-Com, Extraterrestrials will require players to combine global strategy, weapons and technology development, facility building, and small-squad tactics when it releases in September.

    Is it? Could it be? never mind the graphics if this brings me back to those heady original XCOM days of my youth then I cant wait. Your either XCOM or your not...

    Panor: It is supposed to be a X-Com style game, after the original (and not anything since) and is named what it is to pay kudose to X-Com, only not by that name. Instead by it's original name "UFO: Enemy Unknown." It is what some of us hardcore X-Com fans have been waiting for since the original: A game that actually looks, feels and follows the storyline of X-Com... I believe I heard at one point that the developers even have rights to the X-Com storyline and flavor in doing this, just not access to the X-Com name... like they'd actually want to use it.

    Spelling 'absorption' wrong on all your 'cool ship design screens' is highly professional.

    This game is about 12 years too late, and it looks it. Why doesn't someone invent a game where originality is under attack, and people with innovative ideas have to defend the world? YES!

    X-COM copy? click on press release and look at the COMPANY LINE link. Find me one thing that isn't a take off of x-com. UFOEPIDA? rings a bell to me all of it does. Just based on the screen shots. guys crouching to get better shots. Looks like ship to ship battles are different or non-existant. Global map coverage looks different also, no water coverage? only land battles so they can expand with a water version just like x-com did? Any game like X-com is good by me. loved that game.

    If you are judging the game coz robots look similar to ED-209, or the graphics are not espectacular and 3D, you are some customer....
    Let's wait till we have a demo to try it. If it is XCOM with new features, definitely better graphics (not as good as it could be) and a new story, I'm on it.

    Anyone know what this will retail for? Cause much as I loved X-com I'm not gonna pay through the nose for a game that look like it was released in 1998 (yes graphics aren't everything but take a good lok a those shadows and tell me that's worth thirty-odd quid of your money)

    at last. so far it looks like a fallout x-com game together, and both of them i really like. Hope its good as i hope

    I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR ANOTHER X-COM STYLE GAME FOR YEARS AS WELL!! THANK GOD SOMEONE IS DOING IT!!!
    not to mention that it looks great!

    It looks like they ripped off the Fallout engine...and what's with the Ed-209 clones? Meh, I'll pass.

    god... I just hope this one goes lighter than the "After" ones. those two were horribly heavy! they were great games, alright, but they needed too much of a PC for a game as simple as it is... at least, IMHO.
