US PC Game Charts: April 16-22

The Sims 2: Family Fun Stuff stays put on top, followed by Oblivion, Age of Empires III, and...more Sims!

During the week of April 16-22, the number-one finisher from the previous week stayed on top. In its second week of release, the Sims 2: Family Fun Stuff pack once again outsold its nearest competitor, the acclaimed role-playing game The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. That put it three slots ahead of the Sims 2: Open for Business expansion pack (fourth) and four slots ahead of the original Sims 2 (fifth).

The rest of the chart also saw some familiar faces. World of Warcraft jumped three slots to take the bronze, while Star Wars: Empire at War also gained two slots to land in sixth. For its part, Age of Empires III fell four slots to land in eighth place.

But while there were plenty of returnees, the week of April 16-22 also saw an unusual number of fresh faces. The Final Fantasy XI: Treasures of Aht Urhgan expansion pack debuted in seventh place, two slots ahead of Tomb Raider: Legend's first-week showing. Stardock's Galactic Civilizations II: Dread Lords also proved popular, coming in 10th place despite famously eschewing any copyright protection on its game discs.

Dropping out of the top 10 US PC games were Microsoft's Zoo Tycoon 2, 2K Games' Civilization IV, and Electronic Arts' The Lord of the Rings, The Battle for Middle-earth II.

Imavnas- some of those "bubbles" they live in are actually kinda cool. Some come with built-in kitchen and bathrooms and a whole array of colors...lol (mines purple) But I looking for a bigger one, there's very little room for War of Warcraft and Oblivion. Wonder if they have some nice ones on sale on e-bay (scratching head)

Incredible for an indie title like Galactic civ 2 to make it to the top 10 in pc game sales. Considering that there's no major publisher behind it, only sparsely available in retail and it doesn't even come with a copy protection system!

Long live the word of mouth!

Btw, it's a great game to play. Best AI I've ever encountered and the support is great.

I wonder how many people that are bashing the sims 2 have played it for more than 30 minutes , and has seen what it has to offer.

What the?... The Sims 2 is a fairly good game, but its tiny add-on pack is on top? And what is with Sims 2 and WOW being on there so long? I just can't believe that thing beat Oblivion, hell I'm suprised the Sims ever sold so well.

I'm really surprised The Sims 2 is still on the top. I loved that game, it is good. But EA is surely degrading the quality. IMO, Sims 2 on the consoles were utter crap. Though Sims 2 in the PC is kinda good. I don't get why people b*tch so much of this game. I mean, I agree it is over hyped but Sims 2 is a game for everybody and is a break from all those games that has pretty much the same gameplay mechanics as the other games. Kill the monster, get experience points, finish the story, find ammo for your gun, etc. And even better is that EA supports on upgrading the base game already and makes it funner. I played Open for Buisness alot and is my favorite EP because it has alot of Replay Value and the Gameplay is hardcore. It's good that you play a game of life in this game, and not mess up anything in your life.

Family Fun. I skipped that mini-pack though it has alot of cool objects. Sure, you can download them online, but there are risks and what's good is that there are new animations.

Probably has more to do with the fact it's a flat $20 and people don't need to invest ump-teen hundred hours in it to have fun.

    Casual and inexpensive = sold

"Because non gamers play it so much."

how can someone play a game so much, and still be non-gamers? They ARE gamers, no different than those who spend hours playing Halo 2 on Xbox Live.

The fact that the Sims continues to dominate charts is proof that the rest of the industry is incredibly narrow minded. Hardcore gamers play Sims as well, people.

The industry will change eventually though, and the types of games that will come out will be as diverse as the film indusrty.

    "chrisdojo
i don't even personally know anyone that plays the sims. how does this stupid game keep selling so well? at least oblivion and WoW are 2 & 3"

Because non gamers play it so much. Middle aged women, children who don't play anything else, girlfriends who arent interested in any other game on any system if it isn't sims, plus lots of gamers actually enjoy what it offers too, since it is a quality game. They buy into it in droves.

It's the perfect non core audience product, and it shows the power of the "non-gamer" market. You know.. the one the Wii is after.
