Allied Assault back to the front

EA's World War II shooter regains the lead in NPD's latest list of best-selling games.

Electronic Arts continues to compete with itself for the top spots on NPD's latest weekly list of best-selling games. Medal of Honor: Allied Assault, the publisher's popular World War II first-person shooter, regained the lead, followed by The Sims, EA's popular virtual-life game, which recently became the best-selling PC game of all time. The Sims: Hot Date, EA's third expansion pack for The Sims, climbed from fourth place into third place this week, while Command & Conquer Renegade, the shooter from EA's Westwood Studios, fell from first place into fourth. Infogrames' theme-park management game RollerCoaster Tycoon climbed to fifth place, up from seventh place the week before.

One unusual appearance on the list is Vivendi's Starcraft: Battle Chest, which jumped up to sixth place. The real-time strategy compilation includes Blizzard's incredibly popular Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos, later this year.
