Blizzard debunks Starcraft 2 rumor

The game company denies confirming plans for the real-time strategy sequel.

GameSpot spoke to a Blizzard representative today about recent reports that Blizzard's Bill Roper had confirmed plans to create a sequel to Starcraft, the company's wildly successful sci-fi real-time strategy game. Roper has not confirmed plans for Starcraft 2, according to the representative, and Blizzard has not announced any plans for the game.

Starcraft has enjoyed widespread popularity since the game's initial release in 1998. As a result, fans of the game have speculated about when and if Blizzard will choose to capitalize on the game's success by releasing a sequel. Blizzard is currently developing Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos, the next game in its Warcraft real-time strategy game series, and it is also working on World of Warcraft, an online role-playing game set in the Warcraft universe.

    They didn't lie. Read the article. "Roper has not confirmed plans for Starcraft 2, according to the representative, and Blizzard has not announced any plans for the game." All they said in 2002 was that they had not announced StarCraft II.

    erm.....so...they lied.....cause...im pretty sure they announced starcraft two....i mean,,,,its the main headline of their site.....thye also said "development began after wow3 expansion(2003)read that at ign)"....in 2002 they denied this...i think they mustve had a concept a year before development

    whoa this stuff's old. I heard that someone leaked a conversation on a group of people about Starcraft 2's probrable release date.....

    But as we all may know, it's a load of bulls***.

    No you haven't , you've just seen a poor attempt at a StarCraft 1 remake using a crappy 3D engine (C&C???).

    Try this for some more convincing evidence.

    i think that blizzard is or already has StarCraft 2 in the works they are just down playing it because they want it to be a big surprise. I have seen a couple of videos on google of StarCraft 2 gameplay

    Blizzards thinks they cannot make a sequel because they will not make a game as good as Starcraft was, and they don't wanto to disspoint everybody.

    You do realize they could use the same engine, same units, same gameplay, and add in 8 new missions or a new campaign and they would make millions. Tis funny.
