When purchasing the Direct Download version from the EA Store - what's the point of having the "Extended Download Service"?

Are they telling me they will only hold on to my copy for 6 months and if my computer screws up or I have to format after the 6 month period I would have to purchase the game again?

Yup. With the EDS you get it for two years. They're trying to squeeze everything they can out of you.

If you go out and buy a disk, its $50 and you get it for as long as you can take care of the disk - which could be a lot longer than two years.

Check out my Spore creatures because I have nothing better to put in my sig!

Yikes! This is why I prefer Steam (unless there are some restrictions I don't know about).

Thanks guys - looks like I'll be hitting the Future Shop next Sunday to pick up my copy!

^But you can only install it three times ... unless you download a "fix" for that, so your CD will be worth something later ...

    < RAEG> I don't think you have a doughnut. Enjoy your hand.

The extended service or even limited time to download is such a sham. It's virtually costless for them to keep the records of who purchased what. It's nothing more than a sham to get people to re-buy games in the future.
