Siltherine Studios has today updated its official Web site with the first information on a turn-based strategy game named Spartan. Set over 2,000 years ago, the game will pit the ancient Greeks against the mighty Persian empire on a huge campaign map spanning more than 100 different nations.

Slitherine Studios hopes to build on the success it achieved with Legion and Chariots of War with Spartan, and while the new game will be the first to feature 3D battles, it will also include an option for players with low-spec computers to play the game in 2D. Individual battlefields will be up to four times as big as those in Slitherine's previous games, and players will be able to use ships to travel between islands and fight naval battles. On land, players will be able to build city walls, lay siege to castles, and take advantage of enhanced diplomacy, trade agreement, tributes, spying, and sabotage options.

No release date or publisher has been confirmed for Spartan at this time, but we'll bring you more information on the game as soon as it becomes available.
