Sega to publish online PC games

The first game in Sega's new Online Developer Program is Legacy Online, an economic strategy game.

In its latest effort to capitalize on its Sega.com experience and establish itself as a force in online gaming, Sega has announced its Online Developer Program, which essentially amounts to a publishing business for PC online games. The first game in the program is Legacy Online, which was known as Star Peace when it was scheduled for release by French publisher Monte Cristo Games. Developed by Oceanus Communications, Legacy Online is an online economic strategy game in which players try to expand a capitalist empire through strategic negotiations and by building businesses.

"With a rapidly growing networked gaming community, Sega.com is committed to providing gamers with quality content and technology they have come to expect from Sega, be it online or wireless gameplay," said Ryoichi Shiratsuchi, CEO of Sega.com. "Sega.com is pleased to be kicking off its Online Developer Program by working with Oceanus in delivering a compelling and unique MMOG, as the popularity and demand of these types of games continues to flourish."

Legacy Online is scheduled for release in March.
