BattleForge becomes free-to-play

EA just sent out a press release stating that BattleForge, its hybrid online real-time strategy/collectible card game, is now free-to-play. Presumably the company will be looking to make money solely from microtransactions (card pack sales, in this case).

    Stay on topic. This game doesn't require a fraction of the personnel that MMOs require. Don't even try comparing them.

    The good things about this (in my opinion) : a pretty good looking game with nice graphics and interesting game play can be played for free.
    BUT it still sucks that you need real money to get new cards i wish they made something like 2 types of packs: 1 is a standard one witch is avaliable for in game currency and 1 with a higher % of getting better cards in a pack avaliable only for real money...

    It was Free2Play in the first place. You could download the client from there site. Just download the demo and it offers you to option to continue playing and to just buy points. You where paying for the points to buy boosters not the game. Boring.

    Theres no scam to the ones tha bought retail, since it already bundled a lot of BF points. The free version is packed and you can get a lot from it towards gameplay, I might compare it to a Wallace and Gromit scheme, 5-7 hours of gameplay before it gets repetitive and then go buy points. The market for this game already spends an average of $50 in booster packs in other franchises, so it gives a lot of value being a free game.

    Now, the game is very very good, I might call it the most over the top production for fans Yugioh! and card based games. This is no DOTA or else, so if your not in the card game based market, this will feel like a good game with great graphics but with broken mechanics. Now if you do, this sets a benchmark for card based games, youll get addicted.

    I personally play DOTA and DEMIGOD, BattleForge is a very diferent beast that doesnt dissapoint at all.

    I liked the game but the fact that you need to pay to get new cards blows BIG time.

    I tried it, and the game is still far from free. You can't really do anything unless you get BattleForge points, and you have to buy those. I already have one game i pay to play, so i won't be sticking around BattleForge.

    Ironically, I don't care about paying a sticker price. It's the virus of microtransactions that turns me off.
