PCs enter American Wasteland

Tony Hawk's latest outing finally grinds onto PCs; no loading screens, more tricks, co-op mode highlight new features.

Ripping out phat bert slides and one-footed manuals isn't just for consoles anymore. Aspyr Media today announced that it has shipped Tony Hawk's American Wasteland for the PC. The most recent skate-fest from the Tony Hawk-branded franchise was previously released on the PlayStation 2, Xbox, GameCube, and Xbox 360 under Activision's banner. Neversoft Entertainment, who also developed the multiplatform Western Gun and the other editions of American Wasteland, once again handled the development of the PC version.

In the game, players roll into Los Angeles with hopes of becoming a skateboarding legend. Once they customize their digital counterpart, gamers will shred and thrash familiar Southern California locales in the attempts to win the favor of skateboarding moguls Tony Hawk and Tony Alva.

The open-ended mission-based gameplay features the benefit of no "levels" or loading screens, and a slew of new tricks opens up the door for more totally extreme emergency-room visits. American Wasteland features online play for up to eight skaters, and a classic mode returns with a new two-player cooperative option.

Tony Hawk's American Wasteland is rated T for Teen and retails for $39.99. To get an idea of what to expect, check out the review of the PlayStation 2 version.

This is great for gamers. Doesn't mean a whole lot to me because I don't really play PC games. I play the console versions.

Aspyr did indeed do this port, with a lot of help from an external contractor, Pyramind Labs. Beenox did not contribute to this port.

Aspyr wouldn't be the one porting it, they're too busy porting games to OSX so I think it's beenox.
