Tiger Woods to play another six with EA

Electronic Arts ropes in recognizable golfer for half a dozen more years of Tiger Woods PGA Tour games.

Tiger Woods is currently the number-one-ranked golfer in the world but is only fourth on the list for money earned so far in 2006. Thirty-three days into the year, the 30-year old hasn't even amassed 1 million dollars yet. But don't pull out your checkbooks. Woods also happens to be one of the most recognizable athletes in the world and makes a killing off of endorsements. Nike, American Express, Buick, and others all keep his wallet overflowing.

Another company financially linked to Woods is game publisher Electronic Arts, which puts out the Tiger Woods PGA Tour games for almost every console. During today's company earnings report, EA revealed that it has no plans to let this Tiger loose. The publisher announced that it has signed Woods to six more years of using the golfer's name and likeness in its series of links games. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

EA didn't have to acquire the exclusive rights to the PGA Tour to dominate the golf game market. The game is routinely the best-selling golf game each year, far outdriving its competitors. The most recent addition to the franchise is Tiger Woods PGA Tour 06, which was released on the PlayStation 2, Xbox, GameCube, PSP, PC, and Xbox 360 late last year.

Want to have more fun with this golf series ...

    Get this... http://www.electricspin.com/

...it's a golf Sim Launchpad that you hit with your clubs ...as it contols your shots as if it was the mouse, but you are using your real clubs and hiting a real golf ball on the built in truff.

I bought it and it makes the game more real and the fun factor goes right up.

I hook up a big set of speakers in my back yard and run a 19" LCD monitor off my laptop and SWING away! I have been hosting competitions around my area ... pretty cool stuff!!! ....I'm so glad there are 6 more of these games coming out!

    Later....

    Nels.

What are they going to to do besides maybe boost the graphics some more?!?!? And frankly you can only make the same game so many times.

I think you guys are being a little to hard on EA and TW06. Sure, the game hasn't changed all that much in the past 3 years but the gameplay and online play are still second to none. This game will only improve radically if something challenges it and as far as I can tell, there is nobody close. Think I'll go play another round. CYA

33 days into the year and the 30-year old hasn't even amassed 1 million dollars yet??????? He's only 4th on the money list?????

Maybe you'd want to mention that Tiger took the first month off, has only played in one tournament...and oh yeah...he won the tournament......I think everything is OK with Tiger's game!!!! Brutal Article!!!

Better news would have been 6 new courses available for download for the 360 Tiger Woods.

EA should really take better care of their own staff, and stop giving this guy more money. Im still happily still giving those balls a good beating on 05. Cant really see myself buying 06 through 12. All this as they slowly suck the life out of critereon and DICE. Who keeps giving them all this money.

...and then there are these exciting EA titles in development:
Tiger Woods Golf / Football Crossover, Lord of The 18th Hole: An Epic Golf Playing RPG, Tiger Woods PGA Burnout, Medal of Honor: Cablanasian Invasian (kind of like Pacific Assault with Tiger), Battlefield 3; St. Andrews (tiger defends the lauded golf course from Extremeist Muslim terrorist invaders), and finally...Harry Potter & Tiger Woods in The Putter of Doom.
Can't wait to waste my $60 on these!

YAWN!!!! Boring, recycled, lame old franchises from "CHallenge Nothing" EA. I'm waiting for the first exciting release of TIGER WOODS STREET 2006, Medal of Honor Tiger WSoods Storms The beaches, and Need for Speed: Tiger Woods Golf Cart Challenge.
What a boring, lazy bunch of slackers at EA!

Yes, these games have been quite repetative, but I am still a fan. If the game has improved this much since '04 though, wait and see what it will look like in 2012. Imagine what all games will be like in 2012. Or even what consoles we will be using. Look where we were just 15 years ago, 10 years ago, or even last week. I expect a great deal of improvement upon the Tiger Woods' Franchise.
