Electronic Sports World Cup hands out $400,000
Made in Brazil bags the headline Counter-Strike prize in three days of gaming competition in Paris.
The Electronic Sports World Cup took place in Paris over the weekend, with some frantic multiplayer action across a number of disciplines. The event, whose worldwide sponsor is Nvidia, offered $400,000 in prizes and was played by gamers from across the world.
The lion's share of the prize money was awarded to players of Counter-Strike, with team Made in Brazil coming in first and taking $52,000, Fnatic taking second place and $36,000, and ALTERNATE aTTaX coming third and winning $24,000.
There was also a female-only Counter-Strike competition, for which Best of the Best took home $13,000. The Quake IV discipline was won by Winz; Warcraft III by Lucifer; Trackmania by Carl; and Pro Evolution Soccer 5 by Spank. The teams were awarded $13,000 for their victories. The top eight placements in each discipline won prizes, with a minimum cash reward of $2,000.
This year is the fourth time the Electronic Sports World Cup has taken place, with preliminary rounds and regional finals taking place all around the world in the buildup to the finals in Paris. More details on the event can be found on the official ESWC Web site.
