Bill Cowher covers NFL Head Coach

Coach of the Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers to be featured on front of Electronic Arts' football-management sim.

Having led his team to a Super Bowl championship against the Seattle Seahawks in January, Pittsburgh Steelers coach Bill Cowher is entitled to reap some rewards for his hard work. One such reward came today as EA Sports announced that Cowher's mug would grace the cover of its inaugural football-management sim, NFL Head Coach, on the PlayStation 2, Xbox, and PC.

In his 14-year stint as the Steelers' head coach (the longest current tenure of any NFL coach) Cowher has been named the Associated Press' NFL Coach of the Year once, has taken his team to the post-season 10 times, won nine division titles, and made it to two Super Bowls, winning the last one.

Due in stores June 20, NFL Head Coach lets players call the shots, taking control of every facet of the coaching position, pushing pencils, running practices, and donning the headset each Sunday. EA Sports is looking to make the game more accessible than traditional management sims by using 3D graphics and a user-friendly interface. The game is being developed by EA Tiburon, the studio behind the Madden and NFL Street series.

I hope the curse gets cowher...That would be nice to see something bad happen to him. They were by far the luckiest team last year. If Palmer would have played the whole game they woulda been out. Alrite injuries happen its football. Then they were lucky that dungy is a worse coach then cowher and didn't get his team ready. They are also lucky that nick harper's wife stabbed him in the knee(harper was the one picked up bettis' fumble). Then the steelers were lucky that philly didn't make it to the superbowl because philly is pretty much the only good team in the nfc.

Nice to see more focus on teams rather then individuals.

Sounds like a great concept. I myself enjoy simming Madden, it will be nice to purchase a game whose sole purpose is to sim. I for one am looking forward to it.

Drop NFL Head Coach as a game and sell it as a teaching tool those coaches who need it. EA could charge hella more $ for it.

Ooops! I meant to write..... " if they would do the same with their NBA series "COACH, nba" ".......

Oh thank goodness. Finally a sports sim theme coming to consoles in North America, fantastic! Now if they would just get one done for their Fifa series "COACH , nba" that would be glorious. I think all the guys that have always complained about their various sports teams and how they manage their players, i.e cap room and other decisions, can now stop whining about it and actually do it themselves to see if what they think should be done with their respective teams - be they the NBA, MBL, NHL or NFL - can actually work and make their team better. I'm loving this from EA. Now, will they get the gameplay right? that's another story.

Sounds boring to me. What can be fun about dealing with all the problems of a franchise? But at least they picked a good coach.

Nice to see Cowher is gonna be the first coach on the new franchise, go steelers i say, its just a shame that i dont see it selling very well, i just dont think the mainstream that makes madden a smash hit every year is gona want to have a sim game, if anything they should have dumbed it down and thrown it in madden

It's kind of like trying to copy the success that football / soccer manager games have in Europe over here, plus the sceptic in me screams that it's just another way for EA to wring every last cent out of their IP (Take that Neil Young EALA!). I think it will bomb though - who wants to deal with whiny, spoilt, overpaid prima donnas and be accountant-type hero's of the salary cap? Not me...I have enough contempt for the owners of my Philadelphia Eagles alredy about how they manage the cap year after year. "PHILADELPHIA - WE MAY NEVER WIN THE SUPER BOWL......BUT WE WIN THE CAP BOWL EVERY YEAR!"
    I'm passing on this!
