Gamestock 2001: First look: Train Simulator
Play as engineer or passenger in this realistic railway simulator.
Microsoft hopes its train simulator delivers one of the most realistic experiences to date. Train Simulator contains six routes and over 600 miles of rail that have been recreated using extensive data on terrain and elevation. The development team is also hoping to recreate trackside details that are nearly identical to their real-life counterparts. Among the included tracks are the US Northeast corridor with Amtrak's new bullet train, Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway, The Flying Scotsman Railways, and Odakyu Electric Railway--just to name a few. All of the gauges in the locomotive are fully functional and give you an accurate readout on how your train is performing, and there are also controls that you can operate. As the engineer, you must also keep strict passenger timetables and be prepared for any possible emergencies that may spring up such as using helper engines to help push massive trains to their destinations. The game will also include a set of tools so that you can create your own unique train scenarios by creating new scenery, tracks, and more.
Train Simulator is due out this spring.
