The Witcher hexing factories

CD Projekt's long-in-development action RPG based on Andrzej Sapkowski's world in mass production, arriving on North American retail on October 30.

It was 2003 when Poland-based CD Projekt's internal Red Studio announced their first project, The Witcher. In the intervening years, the action role-playing game based on Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski's eponymous work has been shown on numerous occasions. However, it wasn't until Atari picked up the distribution rights first in Europe, and then in North America, that the game's actual release seemed to be drawing near.

Today, Atari announced that development on The Witcher has finally wrapped. The game will begin working its magic on PCs in North America on October 30 and in Europe on October 26. Assuming the role of Geralt, a superhuman hero who possess uncanny sword-fighting and magical abilities, players can explore the world envisioned by Sapkowski while following a storyline rife with modern-day implications and issues.

Rated M for Mature, The Witcher will retail for $49.99.

Finally something worth to play. I am a fan of RPGs, hope it will be at least as good as the Gothic series, gameplay and story as well.

"It's using an enhanced version of a several year old game engine. Hopefully they've done a good job technically. I love RPGs and am interested in this game, but I may be more inclined to buy Hellgate: London first since it can do DX10"

Lol...if you're planning on using Hellgate London as a showpiece, you might as well grab what your dog left in the backyard and put it next to a strobe light. It's funny, The Witcher is using a much older engine, yet it looks like something that should be released this year. HGL is using DX10, and yet it looks to already be 5 years old. *shrug*.

I've been waiting for this one for years...I'm not hyping it up to much for myself, but I certainly look forward to it. It seems like it might be a bit innovative, and FINALLY a new mature RPG. Good to see that they realize it's not all angsty teens that play rpg's, but adults as well. I just hope my rig can handle it!

Well after playing that stinky Hellgate: London demo this looks like the October game for me.

    Pedro:
Developing for PC games do not allow for less risk than consoles. 1) PC gamers are much less forgiving if a game is total crap. Console gamers are often more casual gamers and may not even pay attn to who's developing.
    2) With all the different hardware configurations it IS IMPOSSIBLE to release a bug free game. For consoles it's much easier to make a bug free game.

I love RPGs and am interested in this game, but I may be more inclined to buy Hellgate: London first since it can do DX10 and I need more software to show off the capabilities of my DX10 system.

sprinter24, you do understand that the pc is the safest to develop for? It carries the least amount of risks with it. If they were to make it for consoles and it flopped in sales. There is no from recovering that.

This is going to be one awesome game. Hopefully I get my new gaming rig just in time for this one...

PS: What's with these idiots giving thumbs down on normal valid comments and questions? Bunch of retards you are . "Is this coming to consoles?" "OMFG NOWAY HE ASKED THAT! THUMBS DOWN FOR NEWB". I hate those people. Thumbs down for no apparent reason....

Haha, when I read the title, I thought they were having factory production issues. I'm thinking about getting this game, but I want to see a review first. It's making a lot of promises about story and the effect of choices, and I hope they keep them.

For those who concern about 360 version. Cdprojekt offers jobs for 360 programmers, so they probably think of 360 version.

STALKER and Medieval II Total War and Kingdoms are keeping me well entertained at the moment, and on getting a new PC, so will Supreme Commander at last! Thank God for companies that give gameplay in spades! It certainly helps the hard earned pennies go further! On all these new games I will wait for user reviews, as non of them are dead certs in my book. Both Hellgate and this game could still stink on many levels, or end up being monotonous and shallow. So while I have great gameplay games to play, I will keep my powder dry, thank you very much!

Books are one of the best pieces of fantasy I've ever read. Dark, grim world, difficult to tell who's a bad guy . Hope they were able to recreate this climate.

    No demo?

It's either this or Hellgate, and I guess I'm going to have to wait for reviews to compare them.
