well i guess they do have an advanatge of having a great fanbase already (from the starwars universe). But yeah thy have to bring their "A" game. The mmo zone of gammign is brutall, with already heavy hitters like wow , War even aion from guildwars is lookin real snappy.
Ive always wanted to play a good space mmo though , i may look into eve online in the meantime but yeah I'm excited to see what they can do.It's also interestign that thier not mentioning sw galaxies which i hear dint go too well and left a bad taste in peoples mouths. It's good their positive, good luck guys!!

Hmm the idea of giving virtually limitless freedom (however appealing) and combining it with a truly epic storyline may just be too much for this game.

I don't doubt Bioware's ability but with many different classes and stories to go with each how can they possibly create equal pulling power for all classes. Going to be a Jedi/Sith fest if u ask me!

as someone that played SWKOTOR 1&2 several times and enjoyed every second of it i have to say i am dissapointed that there wont be a SWKOTOR 3
mostly MMOs get repetitive after a while and the entire lure of that is that it actually has an END unlike MMOs, by the videos ive seen the graphics look abit anime like and with all due respect to anime WHAT THE HELL?! it looks like a downgrade from the kotors and even more notebly from Force Unleashed
cmon... i know that this sounds great i thought so in the begining as well but after thoughtful consideration i dont think that it will deliver the so called "kotor" "continum" to the extent of the relatness, as a big SW fan i highly urge that they keep this seperate from the KOTOR series and make a KOTOR3 as well as TOR.
as for n8berman, no kotor is set to about 1k years before the movies...
and preacha91908 i totally agree with you id really like to see a continue for revan what the hell happened to him after he regained his true identity i think that it could be really cool to play as the REAL revan not someone that got mind wiped

I agree with Scottisme. I loved the first and second KOTOR for 360 and I was really looking forward to KOTOR 3. Don't know If I'm too happy with this.

knight of the old republic 3,4,5,6? This one looks like an improvement to the kotor series, and i will defiantly look into the new one. This game will most likely be a great success

I've played a couple MMO's in the time that I have been gaming (most notably Star Wars Galaxies & Dungeons and Dragons Online), and they were fun for a while. The thing that always made me leave the MMO realm was that after a few months of playing, every hour spent in-game was just leveling, leveling, hunting for 'x' item, leveling and more leveling. The MMO became repetitive and boring. It got boring because there was no context for why I was spending my time killing these ruffians or slaying that ogre clan. Granted, it was fun running dungeons and flying around in a spaceship blowing stuff up, but you can't have a game that is purely action without some kind of plot. Now that there is an MMO coming out that has that 'fourth pillar' of story, as well as things from other successful MMO's built in, I think more players will be drawn into the game and stay with it for longer. I will definitely purchase this game when it comes out, even if it has monthly fees.

they do realize people will see this not as kotor online, they will see it as THE star wars mmo. in other words, if they don't do this exceedingly well, it will dissapoint many, and become a big fad very quickly. personally, i think it's a good idea, but they better be pretty damn brave to put their product up next to all the sw games and movies that made a nice picture on the wall in the hall of fame. but i do have interest, but there's gonna be a lot of picky people out there.

if it is a mounthly fee then make the game cheep.
like if its $15 a month then sell it for $10-$20 insted of wows $50-$60 game then $15 monthley fee. and give 2 months free.

good luck bioware, i've played Kotor2 before and i thought it was pretty good, but makeing a MMO out of it will be very hard...people will be expecting alot from it, and so they should be. i'm already in a MMO but there's always room for more

umm . . . not to be rude though, I dont think this MMO will be an exact continuation of KOTOR 2 coz, according to them they are quest in another quest. meaning its like that your character will have another set of personal story which will basically be your quest. and an MMO will be hardly used cause, The game KOTOR really has the prowess to be an MMO game in story, but the actions or places (like planets and ships as transport) will be a hard way for the player. im just giving my own perspective about on what the hell they are going to do with kotor. "BUT" I AM DEFINITELY A STAR WARS FAN!!!

Let me address just one problem. The man said "you don't know why you're killing 10 wolves, well the story puts that into context." I played WoW for a while (will again in the future, no doubt) among a number of other MMOs (never stuck with them, just tried) and let me tell you...I don't care why I'm killing 10 wolves. I don't care if it's the difference between saving the village people or beating a game, I'm tired of grinding. Don't give me a stupid reason to kill 10 wolves, or an excuse. Create lore about a dungeon and the secrets withheld inside and make me fight to unlock those secrets or something. Don't make my mission, under any circumstance, to kill a certain amount of idiot creatures. Trust me when I say killing wolves will never be interesting.

Also, as Snurredutten said, don't expect there to be 'Endings'. The idea of MMORPG's is to keep you playing, so making any definite end game would only encourage people to play to that end and then leave.

  • Ras668

    Posted Feb 24, 2009 11:34 pm PT

graw747 I think you have serious misunderstandings about what an mmorpg is and how it opperates. Companies creating and maintaining an mmo are in the business to make money. Upkeep alone demands there be a subscription fee. Guild Wars, of course, is the exception. However, Guild Wars doesn't operate like most MMO's, in that all ther players on line are not on the same server (or cluster of servers) at the same time. Instead they make heavy use of Instances allowing them to use a low number of servers to accommodate a massive number of people. So, they don't require a constant influx of money to maintain there server. I doubt SWTOR will make use of this design, so I would bet on a fee. But fee or not, if Bioware makes it, it's bound to be worth it.

  • Snurredutten

    Posted Feb 23, 2009 7:18 am PT

It's an MMO, I don't think there necessarily is "an ending" as such.

  • Osiris1112

    Posted Feb 3, 2009 7:14 pm PT

OMG PEOPLE, QUIT YOUR WHINING!!!!!!! If u honestly expect this game to have no monthly fees then ur smokin somethin very very strong. They need some kind of cash to keep their servers runnin and to keep updating it. Only other alternative I can think of is to have in-game items that u buy with real-life cash but that would definitely draw players away because everyone would have crazy powerful items just because they had the extra cash..........Thats not earning the equipment at all, thats just retarded. And btw to topcat laugh, u saying xbox is glitchy makes me laugh because u know nothing. Ive owned an xbox, ive owned a ps3, ive owned a wii, and in NO WAY IS AN XBOX GLITCHY, OR ANY OTHER SYSTEM IVE OWNED FOR THAT MATTER SO STFU

I have never been a fan of mmo games. But if you dont have to pay to play online this will certainly be game of the year for certain. I dont know why they made swtor instead of kotor. I have recently completed kotor 1 and 2 on PC.
Kotor 1 was better than number2 as boware were the developers.
But Kotor 2 had a slightly bette script. I am very exited but its a shame it wont be a RPG like the kotor series. Need any help on any of the kotor`s just ask.

im a huge sw fan...infact that really doesnt say it...i have an unhealthy love for star wars...so you could slap star wars on a pile of crap and id buy it...that said im a huge gamer and a console gamer at that...ive played mmos and rpg are my favorite...kotor was hands down the greatest and most immersive game experience ive had...even though its old school i still find myself going back every now and then and playing through again...i liked kotor 2 but it wasnt kotor 1 by far...so the fact that bioware is back is great...the best thing about kotor (and star wars for that matter) is the richness and quality of the story...so im pleased with the consept of the story elements of this game..but my question is with that much content and that many stories will they be able to maintain a consistency in the quality of each story..im excited about this consept and i have confidence in bioware largely based on their great track record...but i think they should be careful not to trade quality for the sake of quantity...this has huge potential but even greater than that this game has alot to live up to...on a different note...id like peoples feed back on another idea...id love to see them (in the future ofcourse) create a follow up on the revan story..even if you didnt actually play as revan (though it would be great)...lets just call it kotor 3 for the sake of argument..but what i want to see is a continuation of that story wrap up in a kotor scaled game but built on the gamplay mechanics of tfu...despite the problems the game had namely its camera and the shortness and lack of content...i think tfu had the greatest combat and force system of any sw game yet..and it would be great to see that kind of awesome gameplay transfered into a game with the story and scale of kotor...it would be a gold mine..but thats just my oppinion..what does everyone else say...

I really hope my AMD Athlon X2 64 6400+ Dual Core with two EVGA 9600 512MB GTs in SLI will be able to run this game. I don't mind a monthly fee and beside it's time that I let CoH/CoV take a long vacation. Probably will have to get Vista 64 and a new hard drive which is expected for a game like this. If my system meets the Recommended stats (not the minium), then I'm getting this on release date.

There will be a monthly fee guys, and I, like many others, am ok with it because it tells me that they are going to be continually creating and releasing content. If they don't do a monthly fee they will penny and dime us with some other system like micro transactions. Either way it's unavoidable with such a high caliber MMO. I'm so excited that they made this an MMO, THIS is the WoW killer.

Sorry, but it's probably going to cost a monthly fee. If it is supposedly going to be amazing as they're saying, it'll have to have some sort of monthly fee in order to continually update the MMO. Hopefully, this MMORPG doesn't end up like so many others; one that falls short of actually pleasing the player. Still, I have hope that it'll be an acceptable MMORPG.
