    From what ive seen the result of a battle is determined by your equipment and not your skill

    Sadly, I would probably pay for it as is - despite the unpolished graphics, the gameplay could still be good. It looks like it still needs a lot of work though.

    this game footage is in beta, meaning the last product I hope will be better, at the end the real star trek fans don't give a F about graphics as long as you can be inside the ST universe. Most of the ppl commenting here may not be hardcore ST fans , just kids used to play console games. I started playing videogames when it was just one dot and 2 bars in a black screen so this is awesome to me.

    wrong!!!!!, from experience I learned that the most importatnt aspect of a game is the gameplay degree, sound and graphics are cool but not all. I rather play a mediocre game but wihout bugs and great inmmersion. This game looks great since is online, your rig will have to deal with all those multiple battles going on with lots of torpedoes, explosions, and phasers.

    Looks like they tried to put too much in a great game and it came out mediocre.

    Hmmm, doesn't look particulary good. Had such high hopes for this game...maybe they were a little too high.

    lazareth1: Look at the screen shots to get a better idea of the actual look of the graphics. This video is very poor.

    samstherealhero: Last gen graphics? Copying a DS game? I want some of what you smoke bro. --Why are there so many crazy disassociated remarks about Star Trek online I wonder?

  • lazareth1

    Posted Nov 27, 2009 5:08 am PT

    @techdrone

    If no one cares about graphics, why is everyone posting comments about it? All I'm saying is they could get the best of both worlds by simply adding in the facility to change the graphic settings in their game like others do. MMO Devs always use this as an excuse. They can do it, but never do. It's their loss in sales, because no one will even try it due to the graphics. Again I point you to the comments on this board.

    wow............. last gen grafcs and its mmo and on top of that they are copying a ds game this thing screams fail i mean realy if they were going to make it mmo they should not make it story based

    After this video and what champions online was like I am starting to wonder if I should trust anything with cyptic studios attached to it

    @lazareth1
    No one wants to play games that look outdated? Really? Look at Star Trek: Bridge Commander which was released back in 2002 that many people are still playing and modding like mad today -- http://bridgecommander.filefront.com/ . Or perhaps World of Warcraft? A whole heck of a lot of clearly seen polygons there, but obviously, it's one of the most played games out there. There are many more famous yet still popularly played games that I could list. But hopefully, you get my point. Besides, in many cases (Final Fantasy VII/Baldur's Gate 2), the graphics aren't what matter, it's the story and the gameplay -- The fun element if you will -- that matters. And from what I've seen so far, both of these things seem to be in ample quantity and of excellent quality in Star Trek Online.

    @ shadowjman13 and others trying to back up the crappy graphic in MMOs. It's called the graphics settings in options. It has nothing to do with losing profits because customer's computers can't cope. If that was true, why don't other games follow this line of thinking? They don't because they do the right thing and put in-game graphics options. MMOs are LOSING profit because they have crappy graphics. No one wants to play games that look out dated.

  • shadowjman13

    Posted Nov 17, 2009 2:57 am PT

    raising the system requirements would cut on overall profits of the company due to many MMO players not having top notch gaming rigs set up for playing such games, nor having the knowledge of what really is a good rig. computer stores that people generally go to, to purchase a good gaming computer set their prices upwards of 2000$ for something that is, if you were to build it yourself only about 1000$ this discourages people from buying the newer computers, so until this problem is fixed, i dont think we will be seeing any MMOs in the near future that have outstanding graphics. (though it does irritate me as well -.-)

    omg, this is 2009, going on 2010. can they not bring the graphics upto a point where they could be played on something better than a PS1?

    Are you kidding me? That's the best part about the Klingons. The Federation is boring, '"Oooh look at the pretty nebula lets exploore it." The Klingons don't care about that crap they want to blow the crap out of everything which pretty much describes the majority of gamers so they are perfect for games.

    Noooo, one thing i hated about star trek was the klingons, they were so boring having nothing but war on there mind, i skipped almost every episode of the star trek series where the main story was about klingons so i guess i wont be playing this anytime soon.

    No offense to console gamers, but I really wish they wouldn't make this for consoles. It just seems like every time anyone tries to put it on both platforms, it's never as good as it could have been due to the consoles limitations. And as others have mentioned before, graphics could be better, but then again, it's still in beta. I just hope they're quite a bit better when it releases.

    Has potential, but the graphics in the final game better look a lot better than those in this trailer.

    Two things, one, www.sfi.org and two, Consoles are overly catered to... games should be open to both... personally, if they don't make the game available for PC, then they don't want me playing their game. I refuse to go out and buy a Console when I already have two nice computers. I'll be playing this and the new Star Wars Old Republic Online...

    Regardless of Star Wars, WOW, whatever..this is the one I want. I'm not a fan of either of the other two games and I've wanted this for a while anyway. I'm a fan of Star Trek (thanks to my mom lol) and I know she and I will enjoy this one. It's mainly a February gift for her but I'll be playing it too. :p

    To penpusher:

    I really hope you are right about the beta stage graphics.

    Assuming that Cryptic Studios does develop its own games, I expect a slightly more than satisfactory game. However, considering that Marvel Universe Online got scrapped (probably because Disney already has another MMO in mind), I believe Cryptic Studios is going to have problems in trying to develop things, especially graphical effects new to Star Trek IP, e.g. if Klingon ships have been shown to blow up into tiny little smithereens so far in the movies, other games and the comics, Cryptic Studios may have legal problems trying to design new death animations for Klingon ships.

  • penpusher

    Posted Nov 11, 2009 10:36 am PT

    @Gelugon_baat

    I think you protest about its graphics just a bit early, its still in the closed beta stage! Theres still tons of development to be done.

    Besides I personally would rather th gameplay was excellent and the graphic merely adequate than greats graphics and crappy gameplay

    I just hope this game is more like Star Trek then Star Wars. More about searching and exploring the unknown rather then blowing things up.

    Regardless of what others say, I am looking forward to this game. My mind is already made up, I will definately purchase and play this MMO.

    Star Wars Empire at War was awesome with the effects of watching your Star Destroyer having chunks being taken off of it and then eventually imploding and falling from space!!

    Nexus was indeed very beautiful. It is extraordinary, considering that was a game made in 2005. Best PC game space battle scenes of all time. The closest comparison I could think of would be Sins; and even in the graphic department I think Nexus still has an edge over Sins.

  • Gelugon_baat

    Posted Nov 4, 2009 4:10 am PT

    Ship explosions look poor. After having seen the impressive death throes of dying ships in Nexus: The Jupiter Incident and the even more awesome breaking apart of vessels in Star Wars: Empire At War, these are quite inadequate.

    Those who love star wars an, than there are those like us who love star trek..So to some of you who say they cant compete with wow or star wars..They dont have to..Just have to have enough people to make it work..There are plenty of star trek fans around like myself..Love star wars of coarse..Im trying both just to see what game id like more..Its leaning atm towards star wars, how ever im not leaving out star trek online...
