    i don't know what to think about this game yet.... i think i will hold off on buying it until i see some reviews. So far, i'm not too impressed with the graphics, expecially since I currently play "eve online" which is in my opinion the best space sim on the market.

    kinda annoyed that they are using the klingons again as the bad guys - despite the fact that they became good allies in the dominion war and martock is not supposed to be a power hungry douche bag, the only good enemy they could think of was the klingons. anyway it looks good, and does any other hardocre fan notice that those shape shifting aliens look like or perhaps are species 8472?

    my hope is that there will be some EPIC space battles on par with the star wars space battles you see in the movies or read about in books, or even with the space battles you see in babylon 5 (no making fun of this random TV show allowed O.o )
    This will be one game i'll be watching closely

    while the pretty lights and colours they show us in the vids does look like they are properly committed to this MMO, i stil have major doubts. they are essentially trying to bind four things together like someone else said were ST:BC, EF2, Academy and an MMO. that it a monumental task so they are on a knife edge with this one. they can either succeed and make one of the best Star Trek games to date, or they fail and it becomes one of the worst games of that release year. its all up to the devs.

    While it looks like they just showed us the rest of the back story that was developed for the game, I just wish they would post the rest of the Path to 2409 on the ST:O website. After watching the videos, I felt there was a lot left out of the story. Sure, they got a lot of the general aspects in there, but they failed to really explain the big resounding reasons why this all happened the way it did, which would be hard to do in such a short video. Reading what is posted about the back story really fleshes out a lot of what they're talking about and could lay to rest a lot of the gripes that people have with the back story.

    LOL. Wait, wait, let me get my geek glasses on first.....

    So let me get this straight: Basically, what the developers are saying, the Klingons -- even after all the good faith and "honor" that the Federation has proven to them over the countless decades -- has now truely become the biggest douchebags of the Galaxy (or at least this Quadrant). Wow, with friends like these.....

    On a serious note though, if they could combine Academy's fleet strategy WITH Bridge Commander's ship tactics WITH Elite Force's infantry combat, and improve upon them using our new hardware, this future game would be almost unbeatable.

    pretty cool....I left my Star Trek dorkdom behind a few years ago...this could rekindle it. My Star Trek hating wife will be thrilled.

    Graphics look dated, though that is of less importance than actual gameplay. I have a funny feeling about this game, I don't think it's going to do well.

    I've had a chance to play the game at a show I went to, and it seemed pretty cool...no away missions, just starship battles...but it felt like I was in charge of a large, slow moving ship...it was pretty intuitive and fun...hope the rest of the game will be as entertaining.

    Graphics are disappointing. The green missiles/lasers are hideous and should definitely be changed into less "Mars Attacks" (1996 movie) - scenery. /back to playing EVE.

    This takes place in the future and they stated you will have personal shields to absorb the laser damage. If you remember that has been used in TNG before on one of the western episodes.

    I am disappointed I can't play the game and beat up Jake Sisko for being such a pansy on DS9.. Seriously, I loved that show except the ones where he was involved.

    MOOOOOOOOOOOOGIE!!!!

    Oh yeah, can't wait to try it out.

    Hmm I was a little worried at first how they were going to work war into the cannon of star trek but after watching these two vids I'm quite sure they've done a good job justifiying and explaining what led to what. I can really see the klingons going to war over naff all and winning and eventually having a war with the feds (since its happened plenty of times before) so yeah it makes sense

    Lets hope that the gameplay is just as good as the story so far!

    i enjoy all sci fi... i think the awesome movie that just came out will give this game the buff it needs to set off really well, even though im partial to swtor i can see myself playing two mmos for the first time ever if this game is as good as it looks to be.

    @ K_M82 - I agree, first thing popped up in my head was the whole dominion war and the changeling replacing gowron. Why base a huge plot of a game's backstory off of almost the same huge plot of one of the franchise's series? The people Cryptic Studios want to bring in are going to be star trek fans, and trekkies are going to know their lore. Out of all the storylines in star trek to choose from or create this just seems lame. I hope the best for the game, really, lets hope for better storytelling.

    How can people badmouth a star trek game? No more TV series, no star trek games since forever...- if you're a trekkie fan, shoulnd't you be happy?

    at first glance i have to LOL @ the way they depict the laser battles when you aren't on a ship. those guys were 15 feet apart shooting each other with lasers and not disintegrating! that's the thing with gmaes like this where they can't stay true to the actual storyline. EVERYONE knows that Star Trek lasers DISINTIGRATE or incapacitate their target always. No thanks.

    It's true: Eve Online is amazing. This game can flaunt the Trek badge as much as it likes, it's still unimpressive in comparison with Eve.

    What you people dont seem to realize about this "lore" is that it is not just made up by the game developers, some if it is official lore from Paramount. This ST lore was spewed out by Paramount so they could put together a story for that POS that was the new ST movie. The destruction of Romulus and Remus as well as a Klingon/Romulan war are all part of that lore. I'm sad to say it, but I'm sure the game developers are not the ones to blame here.

    The relative simplicity of Star Trek's ships, weaponry and such compared to those of other space sci-fis certainly make for easy graphics programming.

    we get the idea. they feel they need an interesting setting for their story and war works. it's pretty contrived, but what do you want? nemesis was so lame of a sequel you're bound to see crappy plot debris still floating around. this looks like it'll be a fun game, but that's no thanks to the setting or arguably even the star trek franchise. it's trekcraft, best to play it through a pinhole in a cardboard box and forget about any relationship to anything roddenberryish.

    Apparently the vast majority of you people railing against the story have NOT been following the progression of the conflict. Go to the startrekonline.com site and read up on it for yourself. They've put a lot of time, energy, and thought into how the story progresses. This is far from a slip-shod quick-fix of a story to shoe-horn in a conflict.

    I agree with Ronny411, after the Dominon War and everything its strange for the Klingons to behave this way. Thats one bit thing I don't like about the game.

    the land missions with your own unit and an army, along with the space combat, ends up with 3 parts of the game- a RTS combined with a FPS and a MMORPG. last time that happened was wen they made spore which resulted in 5 pieces of poo lumped together to make an even bigger piece of poo. only difference this time is that this game has 3 pieces of poo to lump together to make a slightly smaller but still big piece of poo
