    This game overall looks pretty disappointing...

    @dg3215

    Yeah, the game does look violent. I certainly don't have issues with violence in games, but I do know what Star Trek is actually about and I know that it isn't about violence or hollywood style action. You make a good point, but I think you should give the game a chance. Maybe they are just focusing on the action parts in the trailer because that's what will hook their audience. Maybe there is another side to the game that we aren't seeing.

    I really hope this game is well optimized. Champs Online was pretty damn terrible in terms of optimization. I have a GTX 295 now so I am not really worried about running this. But I don't want to be playing "alone" or with a half dead community because nobody can run the game.

    I wonder...how many Star Trek games can come out before they beat the dead horse so much that it bleeds other dead horses...

    To everyone who thinks that there shouldn't be fighting in a Star Trek game - if there was no real fighting in Star Trek, if Gene Roddenberry didn't think that fighting might break out, they wouldn't have bothered weaponizing Starfleet in the first place. Also, to you graphics nuts, IT'S PRE-BETA FOOTAGE!!!

    Eh... could be interesting but the ships seem to turn far too quickly.

    degenerate:

    I take it you've haven't watched the series DS9, where the Federation fought a war for 2 entire seasons. A lot of military action has taken place in Star Trek since the TNG.

    Seems awfully Star Warsy to me as opposed to Star Trek...
    @dg3215
    There may have been large scale battles in the Next Generation universe, but the Enterprise was hardly engaged in anything like that. The Enterprise was more or less a traveling conference ship where diplomatic negotiations occurred. There were occasional spats, but the ship/crew hardly ever resorted to violence to settle disputes. More in the originals, yes, but rarely in TNG.

    Looks somewhat outdated.

    Posted Oct 18, 2009 3:30 pm PT

    The wars and conflicts with the races just sets up the two factions- Federation and Klingon Empire- to make sense within an MMO. It does not appear as linear as dg3215 seems to think if you research beyond this preview video. Exploration and your bridge crew will play a huge roll while you play.

    Yes, I have seen a few episodes of the original series and tng, after that the others were horrible. Have you? If you say yes maybe you should rewatch them and see exactly how many tng and orignial series solve the episodes with violence.

    Posted Oct 16, 2009 2:25 pm PT

    @dg3215
    Really? You do know this is an MMO...right? How are they ruining it? I love Star Trek and this appears to be the best Star Trek game evermade. And I say "appears" because unlike you I hold my judgment until I actually play the game. The trailer above only talks about the conflict, not the gameplay genius. The show was about peaceful exploration? If that was true, nobody would watch it. Have you ever seen a Star Trek episode?

    ok three things first off, i saw the "gameplay footage" on IGN 20 to 1 says the game will not look that good and thats not saying much. Second whats the purpose of being on a ship and not being able to go anwhere on it? Can you even see the bridge? Finally if Gene Rodenberry saw how violent they have made Star Trek from what it use to be he would prolly drop dead, the show was about peaceful exploration. Pathetic, this game shall be an epic failure, not to mention you have that Star Wars mmo coming out around the same time and the WoW xpac too.. HA Cryptic you ruin Star Trek universe with violence and in turn Star Trek will ruin your balance sheet with no sales.

    @Liquid-86:
    All good space-games will look like a clone of EVE online.

    However im not sure yet if this game will be good or not, since you cant explore your ship!

  • MediForce

    Posted Oct 16, 2009 5:24 am PT

    i am disappointed it is like comic book story the animation and the effects are like old Atari.. and why the torpedos so cartoonish .. btw Voyager is the best not DS9 , the DS9 made captain sisko like a prophet and the wormhole like a Pub , dominion and jmhadars and the funny thing about DS9 they couldn't determine the exact realstic stations size comparing with space ships .
    anyway I hope star trek online will review from scratch the way space and spaceships and explosion effects do.
    I recommend this game only for ppl from Age 6 years old to 11 years old only.
    Good luck

    This will be sooo goodie and can't wait for the decision for being able to be in beta group =) Space battles really looks nice/breath taking and char customization will be sexcellent For Mario009c: Borg's will be in it and fighting against their cubes is gonna be soo thrilling

    Wishing goodie times for developers.

    I used to be a fan of ST so find all the lore stuff fascinating, but can imagine most people's response is "whatever, tell us about the game not show off your Trekkie credentials." Most people tune out if you talk too much about Gorn and Nausicaans and ... - probably why i failed that interview at McDs (that an the way i dressed). oh yeah - if theyre sticking with the novels' continuity the Borg won't appear (covered in Star Trek Destiny).

    I don't know about you. but a war in modern times with two modern super-powers would probably last 5 hours, not 10 years. Now imagine a war in the year 2400 with spaceships and lasers... 10 year war? more like 10 seconds.

    Love Star Trek but this game looks primitive and boring as hell. And all that lore sounds so uninspired and trivial. Considering how horrible ST-Nemesis was, they should know better than to even mention that movie in relation to anything that someone wants to be profitable!!!

    the editing job with the blue screen isn't that good. I've seen worse, but have a professional do it. I'm more of a Star Wars fan, so this probably won't be on my list.
