Gothic 3 good to go

Aspyr Media sets November 13 ship date for open-ended PC role-playing game from Piranha Bytes.

Bethesda Softworks breathed some life into the single-player PC role-playing game earlier this year with the hit The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Now Aspyr Media is hoping for that particular brand of game to experience a full recovery as it publishes Piranha Games' Gothic 3 next month.

Aspyr today announced that Gothic would be shipping to North American retailers November 13, "ensuring that it lands on store shelves by November 20." Gothic 3 picks up the series saga, putting players in control of a nameless hero once more. This time, the hero's land is overrun with Orcs and it's up to the player to decide whether to throw in with the orcish hordes, rise up against them, or find some other resolution.

The game is rated T for Teen and will retail for $39.99. For more on the game, check out GameSpot's latest hands-on impressions.

unionlord- yeah lol, i played gothic 2 without even knowing anything about its predecessors, and while playing i was wondering how i have got such an extent of reputation with xardas and the other guys. Besides that, gothic 2 was darn good and i am soon to try gothic 3

I don't know what your all complaining about. There's not that many bugs it runs fine on my comp. Sure its crashed once or twice but I don't even have the patch yet The game play is great although its combat is pretty hard As soon as you get on defense your basically. Dead but they said they are going to fix that in the patch. So i think its a great game But the graphics suck still all in all its a great game I'm going to get the patch peace out all.

    @ For those who haven't played Gothic series, before Gothic3 - & -
who asks about the predecessors of the serie...

    Okay.
First of all, I really liked Gothic 2 very much. Gothic 1 was also good.
    I have to say that,
Gothic series (1 & 2 & 2: Night of The Raven) have been always
    a story-based games. (mainly)
    That was,
the core of the Gothic series (especially 2nd game). ---

    So,
I suggest those who haven't played the Gothic serie before,
playing this 3rd one, Gothic 3,
    AFTER playing the PREDECESSORS. Especially,
    I strongly suggest playing

    -----> Gothic 2 or
-----> Gothic 2: Night of The Raven, if you can get.

    In this case,
you will understand the events and situations deeply,
    about what happened,
    before the arrival of mainland,
on Khorinis Island (and few other places...)
which first two parts of the serie took place.

So, it will make more sense everything,
about what is going on around "the hero".

    When I play Gothic3,
    I will comment,
about the gameplay and the "rumors of bugs" .
((However, I have already read lots of things about Gothic3.))

I just beat Dark Messiah which was an awesome game. After playing through that I fired up Gothic 3 and so far am bored to death. Framerate sucks for graphics that look outdated to me. The long distance backdrop is pathetic. It reminds me of a game from the late 90's. I played Gothic 2 and loved it, but so far this game blows. I played DM at max level with 1600x1200 rez and it ran smooth as silk, this game pauses and jerks, lighting is screwed up too. And it doesnt look near as good as DM, and I have it patched. I have a 3700+ cpu, 2 7900GT SLI, and 2gb of ram.

It's surprising how many bugs games have today. Bugs (and not only) have ruined one of the most anticipated PC games: Dark Messiah of Might and Magic. And now this one...

Once you have played rpgs of such quality as Oblivion or KoTOR, you simply cannot sit through a game of lesser quality. And it is not about gliches or bugs because KoTOR 2 for the xbox had its' share of bugs but I still love it. It is simply about evolution of gameplay, storyline, and innovative ideas meshed into a video game. I played Gothic 2 and it just wasn't anything special to me. I liked being able to join one of those guilds but there wasn't anything to it other than just joining and learning the craft. And from what gameplay vids i've seen of gothic 3, it looks like a very UNinteractive world.
I'm saving my plat for neverwinter nights 2

Lilac, ur DDR ram doesnt mean ur unable 2 have shadows, ur Ram might cause u 2 lower the settings to a certain extent, but do u honestly think that is all ur pc is capable of its depressing. The game just hasnt been tested enough and isnt compatible with alot of GPUs ( which is why mine is strugling so bad) and IMO ur earlier screens kinda reminded me of Zelda the Ocarina of Time.. & that isnt a good thing ( @ least that had "blob" shadows )

I Bought Gothic 3 because i thought it shared some resembelence 2 TES, KOTOR & maby Fable & Those games are all great in their own respect. ive been growing tired of oblivion & thought this would be a good interval until Mass Effect or Fable 2 (im aware niether are AS open ended) but this game has caused so much frustrations 2 me & how many other people who were victimized by it, that after days of trying to reslove it i returned to TES & realised how much better it looks, plays & feels i instantly better about my PC

anywayz.. has the recent patch made the game playable? because i still have faith for the chuck-like main char of the franshise.

    Update to my last comment.
Yes it still is difficult but I was total CRAP with animals. I have improved and raised my level, I am now able to deal with those filthy beasts better. But boars still hit like trucks and bow and arrows just make them VERY UPSET.
On a general note this game is good. You're thrown in a world with little or no clues and the quests themselves are sometime very cryptic but it's the game that's most similar to a RL adventure I've ever tried.
The best weapon you have is your F5 key: quicksave, quicksave and again quicksave before attempting everything.

I'm running it 1280 x 1024, my moniters native resolution.

As for pixel shader, I could run it at 3.0 but then I would have to lower some of the other settings, due to the 128mb GPU ram. I messed around for a bit and decided that it looks good the way I have it.

Bottom line: Who cares about the clipping between the sword and the torso. Personally I think that Divine Divinity is one of the best RPG's out there, and that's 2D. Gothic 3 has good gameplay and that's why I like it.

Shader Quality 1.4 ur GPU can support 3.0 & the vegitation is on low a feature that comprise's half of the enviroment. It even looks as though ur running it @ 800x600.. & Even though ur screen trys to highlights the features that are on half-decent setting u can notice clipping between ur sword & torso the intire game is filled with that crap u shouldnt have 2 put up with it, I choose 2 rather accept the fact ive wasted my money than to play a average game filled with issues that ruin it, im amazed u dont. :S

boozak. I run the game quite well.

    My system: 128mb GeForce 6800, 512MB Ram, AMD Sempron 3100 @1.8G.

    My Settings
    My Screenshot

This is running at a stable 30 fps.

The people who are comenting on the glitches are not overeacting, the game is honestly the most un-tested-un-stable games i have ever played u cant jus ignore; clipping, HUGE framerate issues, crashing ect. ect (the game still runs after u close it @ least 4 me)

    System: Geforce 7950XT 2 Gig Ram AMD64 4000+

And yet i get 15 - 20fps on Medium/Low & Yes i have the lastest patch, i have defragged virus checked ect. the game isnt worth the hastle to be honest even if it was really awsome which in my opion it really isnt (dont flame me jus my opion)

There needs to be a revival of the Action-RPG genre as there hasn't been any for a LONG time.

Ok let's get this straight I am a Gothic fan loved the first two games especially number 2, but Gothic 3 is awfull, full of bugs and glitches I have a high end PC with all the latest drivers and have patched the game yet still find the game unplayable.

This game needed a lot more testing and optimisation before release.

So for those of you waiting for NWN 2 I say good for you.

Btw: this territory gets the updated gold of Gothic 3. I.e., the patched version. So it should be a lot more pleasant experience out of the box than the euro folks got. Consider this when reading any current European-originated Gothic 3 reviews.
