Ubisoft to distribute PAL Final Fantasy XI

Ubisoft today announced that it has entered into an agreement with Square Enix to distribute the Xbox 360 version of Final Fantasy XI in Europe and other PAL territories later this month. The deal will also see Ubisoft handling the distribution for the upcoming Treasures of Aht Urhgan PC expansion pack, which is scheduled to arrive in stores around the same time. The Xbox 360 game comes with all of the Treasures of Aht Urhgan content as standard, as well as that from the earlier Chains of Promathia and Rise of the Zilart expansions.

"Ubisoft is thrilled to offer the Xbox 360 its first MMORPG," said Alain Corre, executive director for EMEA territories at Ubisoft. "Final Fantasy XI is a gorgeous game with a true innovative feature: Xbox 360 players can join PlayStation 2 and PC gamers in the Final Fantasy universe, thus creating a unique interaction between different platforms."

Since the PlayStation 2 version of Final Fantasy XI was never released in Europe, this will be the first opportunity for European console players to experience the game. For more information on the Xbox 360 game, check out our previous coverage.

    I agree, too many hands in a pot will leave the pot holder with too much weight.

    I played it since it was released on PC in the US (i'm from UK). Its a good game, but then it slowly got itself abused and now the economy is total crap.

    It requires a lot of time and comitment. If you meet the right people it can be a great experience, but by god! There is no way I could go through all that work and progression again!

    I think I've ran out of MMORPG fuel....

    mmorpg + final fantasy = no friggin way i'm buying this. i'd rather take a nap.

    Is it me, or does it seem Ubi-soft is interested in publishing Square Enix products alot? They published Drakangard 2 for PS2 and now Final Fantasy XI Online for Xbox 360. Might Ubi-soft in the future become Square-enix's European Publisher? or Ubi buy SE?

    I'm gonna get it because it's Final Fantasy..... I'm hoping if this game sells well, maybe Square will make Final Fantasy and other games Multi-platform instead of just on PS2/3.

    I played the beta. I didn't mind it, but far too much focus on level grinding. My problem with Final Fantasy XI is mostly to do with the straying away from the centralized XBL system. I like paying one company money to play games online. Anything more than that is a nuisance.

    adam92682, Europeans can play on the PC already, but the PlayStation 2 game was never released there because the PlayStation 2 hard-drive isn't available either.

    How can they say that Europeans have never played this game? It seems like most people on my server are in France

    i play the demo a few time not that bad of a game but i dont wont to pay more for it since i pay for XBL

    i played the 360 beta and i can say it was fun to say the very least ill get it maybe not day 1 but ill get it i use to play it on ps2 so ill go back to the server i was on befor

    You cant depend on this game to get you into Final Fantasy. As an MMO its not bad, its just not that great. This game has been milked to every degree and the economy of the game freakin sucks. I'm glad I quit.

    I've never played Final Fantasy but I will probably pick it up for the xbox360 to see what I've been missing.
