EverQuest to grow Serpent's Spine

Latest expansion to Sony Online's online role-player adds first new playable race in seven expansions, ups level cap to 75.

While the virtual world of the massively multiplayer online role-playing game EverQuest recently celebrated its seventh anniversary, Sony Online Entertainment today announced that it's about to hit another milestone. When The Serpent's Spine expansion pack released later this year, the world of EverQuest will have welcomed a dozen full add-on packs.

The Serpent's Spine will introduce the Drakkin, the first new player race to EverQuest in seven expansions. "Borne of humans touched by a dragon's blood," the Drakkin were created to protect the future of dragon kind. Sony Online hasn't said much else about the new race, but has indicated that players will be able to change physical aspects like color, scale markings, and horns in order to make their Drakkin characters unique.

The expansion also raises the game's level cap to 75, includes content for all levels, and adds a new starting city, the abandoned ogre city of Crescent Reach. Further additions include new zones, interactive objects, spells, "alternative advancement" abilities, and non-player characters.

The Serpent's Spine is set for a September release and will be available exclusively through digital distribution for $29.99.

I don't know why everyone bashes on WoW. I've played it and it's a lot of fun! (I've since left MMORPG's). I used to play EQ too. I think it's safe to say WoW is tailor made towards more casual players, while EQ is geared more toward the hard-core. Both games (as well as other MMORPG's) have had an influence on each other. When something innovative is added to one MMORPG, the other MMORPG's are quick to incorporate that same idea too.

I got tired of all the time needed to play Everquest (I've sometimes had to wait 2-3 hours just to find a group!) but I do sometimes miss playing it. I'm glad to see EQ is still around, I'm sorry to see a lot of MMORPG snobs are still around too...

Bigrozz, they said that there hasn't been a new character added over the last 7 expansions. They didn't say there were only 7 expansions.

This isn't the seventh expansion pack, it will be the 12th. The article says that it is the seventh expansion since a new character race has been added. One nice thing about Eq is the massive amount fo conent it now has. I hope that when wow is this ould it has a simmilar amount of content.

Each game has its own merit and appeal. WoW sold due to the tons of other games Blizzard has put out before hand. EQ sold on its appeal as something new at the time, when the on-line crazy was just getting underway. I still prefer EQ over EQ2 or WoW, any day of the week though. Biggest hope from this expansion is that it'll bring about new player models, they are long overdue.

tche.... You idiots saying that EQ is a crappy game...
If you can play your nice and beautiful WoW now, it's entirely thanks to EQ. half of the stuff in WoW comes from EQ.
And yet EQ is still better than WoW on lot's of points (well it's also true tha tWoW is better than EQ on lot's of point). And the best thing in EQ unlike almost ALL the MMOPRG out here. It's that even if the appareance is the same, their will NEEVR be an entirely similar character::
On wow you have what ... 3 page of 30 talent each. And you can only have 50 talents max at the end (for now, 60 when the next expansion will come out).
Yes... I did say at THE END. Of your character of course not the game. You still can try to upgrade your stuff, and gain some reputation or honor. But you are close of the end of your character.
That will almost NEVER happen on EQ. Their is more than 1000 Alternative Advance ( 1 AA= the same xp needed to get your lvl 46) to get on EQ after your character reach it's lvl max (well it's still possible to do them before too). Almost all different for all class, And it take a loooong time, but thanks to that your character is trully how you want it. And won't be finish in 2 month.

    in reply to

"7 expansion packs? SEVEN!?!? Sheesh. That's what I like about Blizzard. Complain all you want about monthly fees and stuff, but in the end, they pretty much give you free expansion packs in the patches (in WoW)."

EQ is 7 years old, WoW isnt even two Years old, MMO's rarely have expansions in their first year, (Dev Team working most of time on getting the game out or post launch balance)

I wouldn't be surprised if by time WoW is as old as EQ when this expack comes out they dont have 5-7+ expansions as well

    Awesome...

And for people who says that it`s dead lol ya right. Go to progression servers....! Kinda sick to hear about WoW. I`ve played it, maxed out and left. Its overrated, unstable, too easy and many think they`re all that in that game. So until Vanguard comes out...i`m sticking to original EQ .

I'd rather kick a dead horse than play Everquest (or any MMORPG).

I do wonder if the new add on will help make the game better and if this game trully is going to go to the PS3.But I hope not is not a good game to get and would not want to waste money on it for the PS3.
