Champions Online is such great game simply because it allows you to customise just about everything. Not only are there literally millions of possibilities when it comes to creating the look of your character, there are almost as many when it comes to the powers that this MMO allows you to mix and match. If Champions has one itme that is its biggest selling feature, this is it.
Gameplay, if we are to compare, is much faster then it is in COH/COV. That leads many to think "why isn't this on a console". Well, Cryptic has said there will be an XBox 360 version later this year. Now I am not a fan of playing this sort of game on a console but since it does play so fast and furious it might fit. PC Champions do not fear however because it stills works well on your PC...if it is up to the task.
Graphics in this game are full of lots of colors. There is a lot going on while you play..explosions, punches, spells going off and any number of graphical events are going on whenever in combat. Then put this in an enviroment of say a large busselling city and you are going to experience slow downs IF your system is not up to it. If it is well within the spec for the game you will be rewarded with a very good looking game. Understand that it looks like a comic book but it does so very well.
Downside, well every MMO has some issues at launch. Champions is not much different in that regard. One major issue revolves around the decision to patch the game on launch day which reduced the ability of characters to defend against incoming attacks. This severly hindered those that were in the pre-launch head start play. People were obviously unhappy. Cryptic, to its credit has announced that those effected could "repec" their characters to get around that issue. This may or may not be one downside of the game. With so many options in powers it might be that Cryptic will have to make adjustments throughout the life of the game. If Cryptic remains proactive and aware of player's concerns then there should be no problems. However, if those concerns fall on deaf ears...well Cryptic could have some issue.
Overall, Champions Online is a very good game. I highly recommend it to anyone that likes the idea of creating your own comicbook hero and wants to go out and put some hurt on some bad guy!
