Cartoon Network draws up MMO

Children's network, Korean developer to produce unnamed, globally targeted massively multiplayer game featuring popular characters.

While some citizens are sound asleep Saturday morning recovering from Red Bull-fueled, marathon gaming binges, there's another part of the populace just waking up to be entertained--children. That may change soon, as Cartoon Network today announced that it is developing a massively multiplayer online game.

The unnamed project, scheduled for release in spring 2008, is currently being developed by Grigon Entertainment, a Korean studio that has experience in the MMO market with titles such as Seal Online. The multinational effort on the game is no coincidence--Cartoon Network is targeting a global audience.

A full list of the game's cast hasn't yet been released, but characters from Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, Ben 10, and Codename: Kids Next Door have been confirmed. The game, which will be free to download and feature microtransactions, will allow players to develop their characters and form virtual friendships in a "persistent and expanding world." No platforms were mentioned.

Don't worry, thanks to short attention spans, the children will forget about this MMO after 5 minutes of playing it!

my younger cousins are already addicted to games (big deal coz so am I) any way one of em is into runescape and may move to guildwars soon.
I believe parents should be closer to their children now more than ever and help them chose specific times to play.

Otherwise it won't be cool to have every body (including the kids) sleep in monday morning after an all night MMO game binge.LOL

"If you want to develop social interactions go out and play. Fresh air, exercise, geez !!"

When the hell did going outside become so George-farking Washington?

You don't need to go outside to live, we're past the caveman stage where we go and hunt our food, we go to grocery stores and buy it now.

something I forgot to say, as a kid I loved CN, and pretty much hated Nick

(and still do for both counts, Nicks to gimmicky, and is responsible for canceling Invader Zim, turning Rugrats into a unorigonal teen show, the only thing they have going for them now is sponge bob.)

sadly, I can't tell this is gonna suck. but you know what? it doesn't bother me, its free, and its for kids. and a comment to all the daytime CN bashing, I'd say the only day time CN show I still watch is Ed Edd 'n' Eddy. other then that I really didn't bother with CN daytime. I do think Fosters is a decent show also. but obviously, that is to "kiddy" for me now.

Im not getting it. Nothing on CN is good now though i guess Its aimed at a youger audience- children ok...but it still should include Toonami acually this whole MMO would be better off being only on toonami last time i checked it has better ratings then CN. but nethertheless adult swim would be good to add but enough of my ranting. this is what they got and im not intrested.

kids shows on today suck hard . Those ones like that, and that jimmy nutron crap is lowering kids standard on what tp expect on T.V.

I would give it a shot if the old good shows like G.I joe or what ever else cartoon netowrk owns...Don't they own thundercats ,he-man,? I know they play a lot of stuff i like.

There is no such thing as classic cartoons anymore on Cartoon Network. They ruined the whole channel, by moving Toonami to Saturdays only, adding cartoons that are badly drawn and have poor value. There are no more interesting shows on CN anymore other than some animes on Toonami and Adult Swim is really awesome.

I watched a Dexter's Laboratory the other day and I was very astounded at the poor background and how differently animated it was than the show was back in 1996-1999.

I don't think making an RPG is going to do any justice with its new cartoons and wannabe animes like Totally Spies and Teen Titans.

Sounds like a neat idea. We'll have to see how this turns out.
