Judge accused of playing games during trial

Witness in Gotti conspiracy trial says judge was playing solitaire from the bench, asks her to take herself off the case.

Apparently the testimony of Guardian Angels-founder and radio host Curtis Silwa in the trial of John "Junior" Gotti, the man accused of devising a 1992 attempt on Silwa's life, just wasn't interesting enough for Manhattan Federal Court Judge Shira Scheindlin.

According to the New York Daily News, Silwa told the paper he spotted the judge playing a game of Solitaire while he was giving testimony at Gotti's trial last year. The article makes no mention of any other witnesses having seen the judge playing games, and Scheindlin herself didn't return the papers requests for comment.

Silwa has suggested the judge remove herself from the case as a result. In calling for the judge to step down, Silwa referenced a February incident in which New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg fired a city employee after finding the man playing Solitaire on his computer at work.

"Should a federal judge be playing video solitaire when an employee of the New York City government gets fired for playing video solitaire?" Sliwa told the paper. "I don't think any of us are that good at multitasking. To me that's an abuse and an outrage."

Jack Thomspon: "PC Solitaire is an evil affront for devil worship and occultists everywhere! Videogames are trying to poison the minds of our teens and the splash dameage has spilled over to the federal courts. The very fabric of our society is at stake!"

HAHAHAHHAHHAHA nice one Phinster-n-Phinster. Thats hilarious.

The difference between a Federal Judge and a city employee is that the judge is appointed for life. If a Federal Judge wants to play solitare, they will play solitare.

nullvision You have A point. This is very ironic . Almost everyday, someone claims that videogames end lives. Now when A judge is playing video-solitare, during A trial, something that could cause an innocent person to go to prison. People just laugh it up.

It's almost like all of the children who play on XBL have come together. And for what reason? to tell idiotic jokes that would be considered spam on any other message board.

I saw a report a couple years ago in Dallas where a judge played solitaire while hearing a Capital murder trial.

Apprently, it's not all that uncommon. Sad.

That is a convienient way to get a mis-trial. Hard to prove otherwise, but a resonable request to have a judge step out of the case for not being focused on a mojor case such as this.
