When Guitar Hero World Tour arrives in stores this fall, it will be the first console edition of the game not to feature Gibson-brand guitars, thanks to a litigious falling out earlier this year. While the axes in World Tour might not carry the names of their real-world counterparts, that's about the only licensing lapse in the game.

Activision has announced a slate of exclusive partnerships with more than a dozen instrument and equipment manufacturers covering everything from amps to strings. Among the included partners are Marshall, Ernie Ball, Zildjian, Guitar Center, AMPEG, Audio-Technica, EMG Pickups, Evans Drumheads, Krank Amplification, Mackie, Orange County Drum & Percussion, Pork Pie Percussion, Regal Tip, Sabian cymbals, and Vox.

World Tour isn't stopping at real-world gear. Activision also secured the rights for some actual venues, including Amoeba Music and House of Blues Sunset Strip, and "in-game likeness of multiple multi-platinum recording artists." Ozzy Osbourne has already been revealed for World Tour, while previous Guitar Hero games have featured Slash, Aerosmith, and Rage Against the Machine's Tom Morello as in-game artists.

Guitar Hero World Tour is being developed by Neversoft for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Vicarious Visions is prepping the Wii edition of the game, while Budcat is handling the PlayStation 2 version. For more on the game, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.

I love Randy Rhoads era Ozzy so much. I am so damn happy they picked those songs. Could have done better though. "You Can't Kill Rock and Roll" anyone? Diary of a Madman?

It'll be interesting to see if this effects in-game advertising. The more might not be the merrier.

the only game I've ever really seen do advertising right is GRID, GH and Rock Band. Maybe GH:WT can pull it off again.

It isn't over the top in GH III so it shouldn't be. I just hope they offer a better number of DLC and BETTER PRICES for three song packs...

Oh, and Claverhouse, it's not Neversoft's fault that GH2 had such little DLC. You can blame that one on Harmonix. Neversoft didn't start developing on the Guitar Hero games until 3.

Forget Metal. All it really is is noise (to me at least). I would to see more blues stuff and more classic rock. Zeppelin, the Beatles, Radiohead, and Pink Floyd would be amazing. I would like to have some of the White Stripes on there, but they don't have any bass parts, so...

A few good metal-ish bands I wouldn't mind seeing are, The Refused, Dethlok, System Of A Down, Disturbed, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath. Some of those weren't exactly metal but still would kill to get some of these bands in the game.

@chad_giac: I think Led Zeppelin is going to be in GHWT, but only time will tell. Until the Zepp arrive we will have Jimi Hendrix to keep us company though. Honestly I think GHWT should have a good balance between Metal and Alternative music. They have to appeal to more than one group of people or else they wouldn't sell more than a couple thousand copies of their game.

Honestly though, I think they should fire the people that picked the songs for GH3, most of the songs anyway.

does anybody know why guitar hero has abandoned good metal? gh3 had no real "metal" songs, and dragonforce is not metal. i think this time through they should have some megadeth, iron maiden, dethklok, melechesh. and for the love of god i want some led zepp

What idiots at Gibson. They're gonna lose a ton of money. Serves them right. And if the existing perepherals are now 'collectors' items, they still won't make a penny.

I loved Guitar Hero 2 constantly for almost a year. I only played Guitar Hero 3 for half that time.

However what annoyed me with Neversoft was the promise they made with Guitar Hero 2 to launch DLC weekly and then months went with nothing appearing. This got to me so much it put me off buying Guitar Hero 3.

My mate bought me a copy of Guitar Hero 3 so we could play online although I've not enjoyed it. Yes the downloads are there, although I'm in the UK - who are some of these bands/artists?????? and compared to Rockband they are not delivering on DLC content again.

I am not interested in Guitar Hero World Tour either. My mate is going to take a look at it but for me Neversoft simply don't deliver. Whether the project is too big for them I'm not sure but they need to take another look at themselves and also tailor more songs towards the UK or create UK DLC.

I'm waiting on Rockband 2 and the new equipment. I've haven't bought Rockband yet because I'm waiting on the new instruments. I'll buy it along with Rockband 2 when its released in the UK.
