Three-lane 'track revved for NFS: Carbon

Electronic Arts grabs songs from a trio of genres for its trio of auto classes--exotics, muscles, tuners; artists include Wolfmother, Ladytron, Pharrell.

Unlike the speeding automobiles of Need for Speed: Carbon, Electronic Arts isn't cutting corners when it comes to the game's soundtrack. The publisher is once again tapping a mix of established artists with up-and-coming acts for its latest game soundtrack.

For Need for Speed: Carbon, the publisher is aiming to draw songs from three distinct genres to represent the three main classes of cars it is featuring in the game. The group of loud muscle cars will be represented by a selection of rock music from bands like Wolfmother and Eagles of Death Metal. High-tech tuner autos will drive to the tune of electro bands such as Goldfrapp and Ladytron. Finally, the exotic cars will take to the streets accompanied by hip-hop from acts like Lady Sovereign and Roots Manuva. A partial list of the soundtrack is listed below.

Need for Speed: Carbon is being developed by EA Blackboc in Vancouver and will be released for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, Xbox, GameCube, PC, Nintendo DS, PlayStation Portable, and Game Boy Advance on November 1. Wii and PlayStation 3 versions are also in development. For more on the game, read GameSpot's previous coverage.

Why is it that the soundtrack sucks so bad?

This game looks so freaking lame....I loved undergrouond 1 and 2,but I avoided Most wanted because I knew they where working on this one. But I have to tell you, I'm seriously dissapointed. Waring factions reminds me of Midnight club....one team of street racers against another.
They tottaly just combined Most Wanted with Underground....nothing innovative there, just more cheesy object like doughnuts with bad physics to knock down.
The graphics are the same....nothing new

    Moving on....

Goldfrapp is insane. It really is driving music. Roots Manuva and Tiga are also good but the rest is just "all flash-no substance" music. I'll be playing this with my winamp on and the game's music on mute.

its obvious that all need for speed games should have more rap songs then rock songs... i dont know how to explain it, but rap songs gives you that feeling of "illeagel street racing at night" or something like that

My favorite car in the game is The Shelby GT500 and also I like all the old cars of 1960's, 70's 80's and 90's. I like the BMW M3 GTR and lots of other cars. I like Canyon racing and I like the dark!

Well, the soundtrack from the last few games (the 2 undergrounds and most wanted) pretty much sucked. I miss the good old days when you could toggle between "Rock" or "Techno", which ended with NFS: Hot Pursuit 2. I wish they'd bring back the techno / trance tracks, they just get your adrenaline pumping when you're pushing your ride to the limits, avoiding the authorities and at the same time avoiding the traffic all around you!

Tracks from the likes of Snoop Dogg and Fat Joe for instance just don't cut it. Sorry, but that's just my opinion.

can any one name the track we hear in the intro movie ? the intro movie is listed on gamespot as official trailer/movie 2 . It's the one where the guy in the green car explains everything to the guy in the silver aston .

I think the intro track sounded pretty cool , but EA could've spent a lil bit more money & give us a better soundtrack , as well as more licensed car models , no offense - I loved the cars in NFS mw , but the total number was like 34/35 only , where you get 300+ licensed models in pgr3 or forza , I'd love to see a Pagani Zonda or a Subaru Imprezza in NFS , won't u ?

Please show us the game's system requirement .
And I suggests that EA should add a mp3 player to the game so that we can listen or add songs when we play the games.

never heard 'bout many of those listed there...
and i believe they should put musics that we hear on the radio an think: tha'd be cool for that game...
even tough that some musics might be good, like ahn...
Burnout 3 introduced me that band "Fall Out Boy" and some time after the game, the band was on TV and radios, maybe the game'd put them on the media...
so, it's good to hear these unknow artists sometimes, but sometimes it isn't...
anyway, as a guy said earlier, "i turn off the music and turn up the engine sounds"
that's cool if the engines sounds are like the real ones and if the parts you put on the engine(and the muffler tip) make a difference at the final sound, if the engine sound is somehow like those from Top Gear then i might put the game on mute and get my MP3 to hear it as i play the game...
the guys here with the Xbox have that advantage of custom soundtrack...
i hope that Sony's PS3 comes with something like that...
