THQ details Cars

Publisher reveals info on games based on upcoming Pixar film; actors from movie provide voices for "story-based racing adventure."

Games based on films are almost always a good investment. Games based on family films are an even better investment. However, the real pot of gold is games based on the family-friendly films of Pixar, which publisher THQ has cashed in on more than once. Following stints with Sony Computer Entertainment America and Activision, Pixar has shaken hands with THQ, and the two have released games based on Monsters Inc., Finding Nemo, and The Incredibles.

The partnership went up another gear today, as THQ revealed the first details on its games based on Pixar's next film, Cars. The movie brings talking automobiles bumper to bumper, as Lightning McQueen (voiced by Owen Wilson) learns a valuable lesson on his way to a big race.

The game will appear on the GameCube, Xbox, PlayStation 2, PSP, Game Boy Advance, DS, and PC, and it's a story-driven racing adventure. Gamers will get behind the wheel of 10 playable characters in a free-roaming environment that features more than 50 races. The film's cast will reprise their roles as voices in the game.

THQ has not announced any North American release dates, but the game will likely ship alongside the movie's theatrical debut, which takes place June 9.

It'll blow but it'll sell well especially if the movie is good. Why would anyone try to make a good movie tie-in if mediocre ones sell just fine?

The quality of these will only go up if customers speak with their wallets.
