Necrovision Hands-On

The best WWI/vampire/demon shooter ever?

Official Trailer

World War I, vampires, demons? What's not to like.

The upcoming first-person shooter, Necrovision, combines World War I, vampires, and demonic powers. At least no one can ever accuse developer The Farm 51 of not being original.

At 1C Company's annual press event this week, we took a few minutes to step into the combat boots of a young American soldier, volunteering to join the British army for the adventure of a lifetime. And boy, did he find it. Soon after storming German bunkers and clearing out trenches while avoiding poisonous clouds of mustard gas, our hero witnessed a giant flaming skull floating in the sky. Similar in appearance to Lord Voldemort's dark mark in the Harry Potter films, the skull told us that our life is forfeit and our soul belongs to demons--or something to that effect. Soon, we were attacked by a fiery demon that hurled fireballs at us. Naturally, we shot our Luger pistol at this supernatural monster and defeated it. It must be said, those Germans sure did know how to make a good Luger.

That ended our hands-on time with the game, but we did manage to pick up a few additional story elements. After defeating the Kaiser's wily band of Germans, our hero descends into the underworld where he must do battle against vampires. Only then does he discover that it is the demons and their forces of darkness that are the true threat to human and vampirekind alike. Our hero discovers a demonic power glove and, naturally, assumes the powers of the demons and utilizes vampire technology to save the world.

Convoluted storyline aside, we did enjoy thrusting our bayonet into hordes of Germans. Along with the Luger and traditional rifles, we used stick grenades and our fists to pound through the Kaiser's forces. Later on, you'll unlock magical attack spells, do battle against large bosses, and solve simple puzzles. In one such puzzle, we were cut off from our friends by a malfunctioning electrical panel. We threw a grenade at it, the panel blew up, and we moved on.

If you're looking for something different later this year, you'll surely find it in Necrovision.

    This and Cryostasis is already out here in Europe. Played and still playing both of them, although i can't understand how can same studio make two very different games in terms of quality. On one hand Cryostasis has great atmosphere, optimized engine and plays well. On the other hand there is Necrovision, a game not optimized at all, weird FOV and not so great gameplay. It isn't a bad game, but it isn't a great game either. Best description would be mediocre. I will play it till the end and then forget all about it.

    The game is already out in Europe. Level 5 - Stone Henge is almost unbeatable even in easy mode. You are in mechanical suit and after beating loads of troops, tanks,you have to fight boss. He is too strong, can regenerate- you can't, and creates many flying gun bots. When you beat his tank you then have to beat him. Only completed it by using GOD mode as a spoiler. It must be totally impossible at any other level.

    @Granulated check out the config.ini in BIN folder.....look for Cfg.FOV = 100
    Cfg.FOVRun = 110
    fiddle with it, you can get it much better. I for one prefer to have the run and normal FOV the same. Stops me feeling sick ^^

    This game has a disgusting fish-bowly FOV that you cant change (at least not from the settings menu)

    This game is as good as a bucket of gasoline when your house is on fire. You get to hear incredibly smart lines like "That makes me angry" and "I am defending", the level design is the true horror that you will encounter not to say that the control scheme also ain't one of the best, average at most. Don't believe me just check your private trackers and see for yourself

    @CaptainFNK
    Dude you are stupid!
    This game will be the best WW1 shooter ever.
    Is like a combination of Clive Barker's Jericho,Painkiller and Dark Messiah.
    And that is a damn good thing!

    This game HAD to have been influenced by the Darkness. They seem nearly identical.

    Definitely keeping a eye on this one. The hell level of The Darkness was my favorite part of the game, and Jericho isn't too bad either, so I might just get a kick out of this one.

    CaptainFNK shut up and play the game before you talk about Dialogue and plot points , or its apparent use of poor rendering which is obviously what makes a game "ZOMG 133T" , besides if you look at other shooters such as crysis , the dialogue wasnt particularly wonderful nor original i mean it could have been ripped out of any war movie, and if you play it with low gfx settings it wasnt particularly awesome nor great though i quite liked warhead, anyway i think this game is like a combination of call of duty,Doom 3 and im very interested in playing it when it comes out

    I'm not entirely sure how prejudice fits into all of this, I ripped on the game strictly based on the trailer.

    Nice use of caps lock though, Champ.

    Looks cool even if there is no plot...you still never know. It should be fun and so long as it has some jump out of your seat moments It might be really fun.

    Wrong. There is no plot to this game.

    And it looks like the narration is done through either A) a cheesy old man voice B) a melodramatic emphysema ridden Max Payne voice or C) horrible, horrible dialogue pop-ups. "Don't you know you're dead? You're already dead! So what's the point?" That's not good writing.

    How can you guys not see how bad this is going to be?! Plot aside, did you see how hilarious the kick animation was? Three frame, no camera changes, just a straight-legged robot kick. Also notice the incredible amount of fog, an annoying fix for a poor use of environment rendering. Also note the powers: Wooooaaah, a demon glove that throws orange or even BLUE fireballs, what a selection!! And if you get tired of that, you can pretend you're Wolverine for awhile!! TH4T5 L33T Z0MG!

    Poop on this game. 1C should either scrap the idea and save themselves the time and money or clean up the animation and try to play Necrovision off as a comic spin on the supernatural FPS.
