Myst Online goes live tomorrow

GameTap confirms release date for once-canceled massively multiplayer version of Uru: Ages of Myst.

The last time a publisher tried integrating a massively multiplayer component into Cyan Worlds' PC puzzle franchise Myst, the project never saw the light of day, being canceled while the game was still in beta testing. Last year, downloadable game subscription service GameTap announced that it was going to bring the project back and publish it on its own. It appears as if this time the game's actually going to make it to market, as GameTap today confirmed that Myst Online: Uru Live will go live on its service tomorrow, February 15.

Myst Online: Uru Live will be available to GameTap subscribers in the US and Canada, but the company has said it will also make it available as a direct download in more countries around the world. A Mac version is also in the works for release later this spring. For more on the game and what Cyan Worlds is going to do now that it's finally seeing release, check out GameSpot News' quick chat with Cyan Worlds founder Rand Miller at last week's D.I.C.E. Summit in Las Vegas.

Wow! The game looks great and runs very well on my 3 year old computer (with a relatively weak graphics card). Still have to see how good the gameplay turns out. So far, so good. Way to go GameTap!

I love GameTap, and this is only going to help me love it even more. I'm looking forward to trying this out, and I hope the Mac version of GameTap is near the end of the pipeline.

Let me inform the posters here of something they may not have known. When UruLive was cancelled a few years ago the fans kept it alive. When Cyan released server tools to the players a lot of homebrewed servers popped up. The fans kept this game alive for two years. So to say that there is no market for Urulive is really incorrect. As for the people who don't care for the series, to each his or her own.

Wow - amazing to see some of the replies, well sad really.

I'm glad they are finally making a MAC version and if this works out I just might give it a try. There some new ground that can be covered here beyond the typical hack and slash mmog, and even though Uru was a bit different from other Myst games, it had its' moments.
