GTAIV, Media Molecule top Spike's VGAs

Rockstar's acclaimed action adventure scores network's Game of the Year; Little Big Planet developer named Studio of the Year.

Over the weekend, Spike TV officially inaugurated award season 2008 with the first batch of year-end accolades. Hosted this year by Jack Black (star of Double Fine's EA-published Brutal Legend), the VGAs laid laurels at the feet of a number of sure-to-be stalwarts of the award season, as well as featured trailers from several 2009 hopefuls.

Walking away with top honors at the event was Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto IV. One of two games to score a 10 from GameSpot this year, GTAIV also won a number of other awards, including Best Performance by a Human Male (Michael Hollick as Niko Bellic) and overall Best Action Adventure.

GameSpot's other top-rated game, Metal Gear Solid 4 from Konami, scored a number of its own nods, including Best Performance by a Human Female (Debbie Mae West as Meryl Silverburgh), Best Original Score, and Best Graphics.

Another big-name exclusive for Sony, Little Big Planet from Media Molecule, was also honored in abundance. The Sackboy-led platformer was named best PlayStation 3 title, and SpikeTV named Media Molecule proper as Studio of the Year, beating out GTAIV makers Rockstar North, Rock Band 2 creators Harmonix, and Fallout 3 survivors Bethesda Softworks.

SpikeTV's VGAs also featured trailers from a number of hotly anticipated games, including Sony's God of War III, Naughty Dog's Uncharted II: Among Thieves, Rockstar's GTAIV: The Lost and the Damned, Double Fine's Brutal Legend, Warner Bros. Watchmen, and EA's just-announced Dante's Inferno.

Thank god they didn't pick crappy gear solid 4. Bad enough gamespot picked that as game of the year, despite it having the worst story i have every came across in a game. Only reason anyone likes it is becuase they make the story seem alot bigger than it actually is.

Ok out of MGS 4, GEoW2, LBP, and fallout 3, The award goes to GTA IV...??? THis is why I the VGA's suck, The show has been a crock of $hit since it started. GTA IV should get "Most Dissappointing Game of theYear" award. The other 4 games are clearly superior to this. LBP, MGS4, or Fallout 3 would've been my vote, screw the VGAy's

    Most is alright but

Game of the year should've been MGS4
best shooter should've been resistance 2.
    and best multiplayer resistance 2.

I'm sick and tired of the GTA4 dong-suck. It is seriously the most over-rated game in the history of games. Massively over-rated. In fact, I will go on record in saying that I get more enjoyment from Super Puzzle Fighter, a downloadable 10 buck game than I did from GTA4. GOTY???? Seriously???? Garbage.
