Buena Vista getting Desperate

Disney's game division announces PC title based on popular ABC satire Desperate Housewives, due this fall.

If there's one thing massive media conglomerates love, it's synergy. Need proof? Look no further than the Walt Disney Company. Today, the multibillion-dollar corporation announced it is bringing together its resurgent television network, ABC, and its nascent games division, Buena Vista Games. Hoping to replicate the success of PC games based on series from ABC rivals NBC Universal (Law & Order) and CBS Corp. (CSI), the two Disney divisions are making a game based on the hit satire Desperate Housewives.

Developed by Liquid Entertainment, most famous for the real-time strategy titles Dragonshard and Lord of the Rings: War of the Ring, the game is described as a "lifestyle simulation" game. Clearly oriented at the Sims demographic, the game puts players in the high heels of a new housewife who moves to Wisteria Lane, the fictional neighborhood the show is set in.

But while Desperate Housewives' popularity is in large part due to its ensemble cast, apparently none of its five stars have signed on to the project. Eva Longoria, Nicolette Sheridan, Felicity Huffman, Marcia Cross, and Teri Hatcher were not mentioned in the game announcement outside its footnotes about the show. Only Brenda Strong, who narrates the show as the disembodied voice of dead housewife Mary Alice Young, has publicly signed on to the project.

Desperate Housewives is set for release later this year for the PC. No rating or price has yet been set.

You all must judge games without even playing them! I just got this game as a Christmas gift and it's pretty good and no I don't watch the show! I believe I've watched it 2 times, but this game is quite enjoyable. Not all people want to play shoot em up games, driving games or sports!

What do you do in the game? Get facials, complain about your husband, try to commit suicide, try on shoes, complain your butt looks big in these pants, and then get a divorce and take all of your "ex"husbands money even though he was the one working for the past 10 years to keep you alive while you made it seem like taking care of the kids and vaccuuming is actually harder then having a real job with a cubicle where you can hear the really ugly woman next door talk about her sex life for hours on end until you just want to explode so you tell her to stfu and then she sues you for whatever you have left in a sexual harrasment case. Sounds alittle bit too much like the real life of being married to a feminist.... Thanks, but I'm never gonna buy a copy of this game EVER!!!!

I can see that coming from Buena Vista, who make nothing but crappy tie-ins based on Disney properties. I don't see this as being a huge success; who's going to buy this game? I doubt a lot of people that watch Desperate Housewives play games and I doubt people who play games will play this.
