X-Blades swinging in late 2008

Anime-style third-person hack-and-slasher due on next-gen consoles and PC by the end of the year.

Female game heroines are popular these days. The most famous example is Tomb Raider's Lara Croft, of course, though she's not the only one--witness Nariko from Heavenly Sword, Jade from Beyond Good and Evil, and Joanna from Perfect Dark.

Now there's a new contender--Ayumi, who will be the star of upcoming hack-and-slash game X-Blades. Described by publisher Southpeak Interactive as "stunningly seductive yet tenacious," the blonde bombshell will use pistol blades, acrobatics, and magic spells to send enemies unfortunate enough to cross her path stylishly to their graves.

X-Blades is being developed by TopWare Interactive, and will be coming to next-gen consoles and the PC in "late 2008."

The publisher is banking on the idea that this game is going to move copies because the lame American Anime main character is bare @ss.

It's worked before to various degrees...
    But yeah, mediocre at best.

The picture included with this article is just a portion of one of the pictures in the game's gallery. It actually doesn't look that bad, but could still use some work.

It looks like early Xbox game ---____--- and what's so special about TopWare, never heard of it.

I think that it's foolish to make assumptions about this game given the total lack of real info offered. That said, I agree that a vague press release shouldn't be featured news on a respectable site. The same reasons that it's a bad idea to draw conclusions about this game from the article are the same reasons that it isn't NEWS.

So we've got the guys who worked on Two Worlds and Monster madness paired up with the ones who have, most recently, been working on a Pinball game? Oh yeah, definitely feeling my confidence inspired by this. How is this featured news? Whats next, Culture as the top news release? Pfft.

Acrobatics, guns, and swords. If this turns into a Devil May Cry ripoff I'll make sure this developer goes into my Black List.

Since when are A cups and over-sized boots "stunningly seductive"? Maybe if you like the little girl look....

Still it doesn't sound entirely bad. Pistol blades are at least intriguing.

At first glance this game looks a lot like the Crimson Sea series... and that's a good thing. That said, one fuzzy screenshot and an incredibly vague bit of marketing jazz doesn't make or break a game... lets just be patient and see where it goes. It's not as though we have to front the money for it's development after all.
