The Ship 2 to set sail

Quirky online game's Web site carries statement that work has started on a sequel.

Outerlight, the developer of innovative online stealth-action game The Ship, has announced on its Web site that a sequel to the game is underway, and that it will be working with a "major international publisher" for the new game.

The Ship started life in 2004 as a Half-Life mod, and became a full-size game that was then released in July 2006 on digital distribution service Steam. A European boxed retail version hit store shelves in September 2006, followed by a US retail game in April 2007.

Set on a 1920s luxury liner, gamers are given details on another player to "kill," which must be done using improvised weapons lying around the ship, and without witnesses. Of course, someone also has your name and location, and is hunting you down as well... For more information on The Ship, check out GameSpot's review.

Outerlight is currently recruiting for software engineers and designers, as well as concept, environment, and character artists and animators, and says that more details on the new game will be posted soon.

I liked the ship but the one thing I didn't like was that your appearance kept changing. And your characters name kept changing. When playing multiplayer games with friends I like to know who's killed me and who I've killed, it makes it more personal and fun. I understand the concept of not knowing who is after you and changing clothes but creating your own character like in tiger woods would be much more fun when playing.

I wish this game would come to a console, I'd love to have a game that allowed me to hunt down and kill my friends on a ship via Xbox Live.

    Does that seem weird?

The Ship was one of the most novel games I had ever played when it came out. I still need to find a friend to give my guest pass to so they can try it.

The Ship had a very interesting premise. Hopefully the second one will share that trait and improve on it.

Hopefully this time around, they'll advertise more, my only problem with the Ship is that there's hardly anyone on.

"Go download the Original game on Steam. It's $10. Amazing Single Player and even better Multiplayer (especially with friends). Do It!"

I bought the Ship such a long time ago that I didn't get included in the SP+MP deal. Sucks to be me.
