With the upcoming release of the free Street Fighter IV Championship Mode update on April 24, players will be able to grab their arcade sticks and Hadouken their way through fighters online, competing for the online equivalent of prize money, "grade points," and, of course, to be "the best. "

Now those very same gamers will be able to put their honed fighting skills to the test in the official European tournament, which is set to run until May 17 and should hopefully see fighting of epic proportions.

Unlike the US Tournament, the European one will not initially take place face-to-face between competitors, but rather players will face off online via Xbox Live. Capcom will track the gamertag of any registered competitors playing on Live as they compete for grade points, and the top 30 grade-point-scoring players from the UK, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain will compete face-to-face in a national final.

Those lucky enough to bust their way to the top of the nationals will be flown all expenses paid to a secret location for the final in June, where the European Champion will be crowned and will ride away on a brand-new Yamaha Aerox R scooter. PS3 users will be unable to compete, because Capcom will be tracking gamertags only on Live.

Interested parties can sign up for the tournament on the Capcom Web site now.

Two things to Capcom: why the hell XBOX 360 only???? And why the hell only in those countries?? European championship...yeah right!!! I live in Portugal, far as I know its part of Europe...among as other countries of course.

    Not cool!!

BC20FLY is completly right. I mean i use both analoge sticks and the D-pad. When i played SFIV on Xbox it just was not worth it. Plus don't people realise everybody who will enter the tournament will have a special Madcatz controller undoublty.

As soon as it was not a live tournament but rather an online "Live" tournament, the whole thing became meaningless. Stuff that works because of input lag online would never fly offline. And for a grand prize of a scooter? Sounds like this tournament was thrown together on a moment's notice with little understanding of the dynamics of the game, nor a decent budget to properly host the gamers or pay off the winners.

I would demand a redo if I were Europe. Do it proper or don't do it at all.

Unless of course you're Italian, I think the scooters are sort of "hip" there. Don't hate on me for saying that though, it's just my personal opinion.

Yikes xbox360 only. I feel bad for the ps3 users but I do think that's a Sony decision not Capcom. And as far as the d-pad issue is concerned, Microsoft can go fist themselves for making the worst ever d-pad in the history of d-pads. Haven't tried the ps3 one but it would take something really special to outdo the incompetence of the MS d-pad. One thing that puzzles me though is the relatively small prize money for pro gamers. Why can't they afford to at least offer a decent payout to the top 10 or so finalists in all of Europe? I'm sure there's plenty of money in it for them to be able to. I think it would also make for a more exciting tournament. I think a lot of good sf4 players will just say f that I don't want to look like a huge wiener riding around on one of those scooters. Mind blasting.

LMAO AHAHAHA!!!! Was that a serious statement!!!? you were joking right? Please say you were joking for your own sake so that you don't look like a tard with downsyndrome? 360, better pad than PS3? Take off the fanboy goggles son because everyone knows the 360 has the $hitiest dpad of all consoles. Press right, you jump instead, try doing a haduken, you get a fist full of air. Please you dont know what your talking about.

how did i know that would get the ps 3 fanboys to start. you get what you pay for and psn is not likely to have events like this when it is free where as microsoft are gonna continue to deliver. i will be getting bionic command capcom no matter how much playstation fanboys want to boycotte your games. as for that stupid remark that the best players are on ps 3 i would say that is not likely. The xbox is a better pad for streetfighter anyway. the ps 3 pad is fine for any kind of game except fighting games for fighting games it sucks.

@KieranCottrell Yea xbox live fees is crap. But remember, that some of that money is used to extend there marketing, used to host events and also to secure exclusive content, whether it be games or DLC. If live was free, Lost and Damned would be multiplatform. This Im sure. Hosting or sponsoring events is the thing here that has happened.
